Default Model Shop (1969) directed by Jacques Demy

French director Jacques Demy's first English language film Model Shop (1969) is coming to Blu-ray on April 17, 2018, from Twilight Time. This will be a limited edition of 3000 copies.

Where to buy (or pre-order):
Quote:
Plot Summary (taken from Vincent Canby's original New York Times review): Jacques Demy's first American movie......The French director brings back Lola, the beautiful, emotionally dented leading character of his first movie, and transplants her from Nantes to Los Angeles. Abandoned by her husband, Lola works in a garish little photographic studio—a kind of house of prostitution for the inhibited—where a customer can rent a camera and a girl and take his own pictures.

Directed by Jacques Demy (Lola, The Umbrellas of Cherbourg, The Young Girls of Rochefort)

Starring:

Anouk Aimee (Lola, 8-1/2, A Man and a Woman)

Gary Lockwood (2001: A Space Odyssey and lots of 1960s and 1970s television shows, including Star Trek where he appeared in the episode "Where No Man Has Gone Before" as Lt. Cmdr Gary Mitchell)

Alexandra Hay (Guess Who's Coming to Dinner, Skidoo)

Tom Holland (as Tom Fielding - when he was an actor, later he became a director of such cult classics as Fright Night)

Music by 1960s rock group Spirit.

Quote:
Some interesting trivia about this film (modified from IMDb): Harrison Ford was Jacques Demy's first choice for the main character instead of Gary Lockwood, but Columbia didn't want Ford, thinking he would never be a star. Demy's wife Agnès Varda shot a screen test of Ford, clips of which are included in her documentary The Beaches of Agnès (2008).
