Default Good buzz? Bad buzz??

When ever I power down my system, I turn off the TV, BD player and put the AVR on standby. I noticed that there was a faint buzzing/humming coming from my Paradigm Monitor 9 speakers. It is not a loud noise, and I need to put my ear to the speaker (tweeter) to hear it, but I was wondering if this is something to be concerned about. If I shut off my power center, the buzzing stops.

Do you guys leave your power center on or shut it down as a part of your shut-down procedure? Is there anything wrong with shutting down the power center? Am I wasting electricity by keeping it on? Obviously, some power is being used to create that slight buzz/hum.

Ultimately, I want to know how many of you turn the PowerCenter off when shutting down your system?

Leaving your Power Center on leaves everything in "standby" mode. The reason remotes can be used to power on devices is because they're still drawing current to be ready to receive the signal. If you truly want them off, then yeah- pull the power. Personally I only do that when I leave on trips/vacations. Some devices actually pull a lot of power still, so if you're really trying to be green I'd suggest looking up the #'s for your individual devices.

As far as the hum, sounds like either a slight ground-loop hum or possibly pulling in some radio interference. When I lived near some radio towers, I used to get stations in so clear while the radio was "off" that I didn't have to turn it on.

Thanks. I don't think it is radio interference. If it is a ground-loop hum, can anything be done about it? Is it something I need to be concerned about?

If you have a ground loop problem, check the Ground Hum & Ground Loop Isolators thread.
