TV pitchman Billy Mays found dead in Tampa home

TAMPA — Billy Mays, the TV pitchman whose trademark voice helped sell everything from cleaning supplies to baking soda, was found dead this morning by his wife at his Tampa home. No cause of death has been reported and no foul play is suspected, according to Tampa police.

Mays, 50, was pronounced dead at 7:45 a.m. at 2853 Bowen Daniel Dr., #1201. His wife, Deborah Mays, found him unresponsive this morning. The Medical Examiner's Office will complete Mays' autopsy by tomorrow afternoon.

"Although Billy lived a public life, we don't anticipate making any public statements over the next couple of days," Deborah Mays said in a statement today. "Our family asks that you respect our privacy during these difficult times."

Mays was a passenger Saturday of the 737 aircraft that took a hard landing at Tampa International Airport, an airport spokeswoman said.

Actually, Billy's partner, Anthony Sullivan, will be the next commercial king. I can't see Vince endorsing much after his beating up hookers incident.

Anyway, RIP Billy. He was only 50. I was enjoying his "Pitchmen" TV show on Discovery Channel.

He was on the local news yesterday. There was a U.S Airways plane that had problems landing when the tires blew up. I was watching "pitchman" a couple of days ago. This news is shocking.

Im going to speculate on his cause of death. Heart attack. During his "hard landing" he probably suffered a minor heart attack at that time. The muscle in his heart that was under attack died and the rest of his heart had to work overtime to compensate. After so long of working to keep blood flowing his heart finally gave out.

Exact thing happened to my father. He had chest pain and did not go to a doctor right away. Doctors say most men will not go see a physician after having chest pain due to a traumatic event.

My heart goes out to his family. I know Billy worked hard and did a great job at what he did. I had a laugh or two at his expense but I'm sure he would say.. that was ok, as long as he got the lime light his clients demanded"

RIP Billy

How old was your father at the time? 50 seems pretty young for this to happen. I just hope he wasn't on drugs. I guess we'll find out in 4-6 weeks if the autopsy doesn't show anything.
