Default Billy Idol

Eagle Rock Entertainment are proud to announce the release on November 16 2009 of the incredible Billy Idol DVD “In Super Overdrive Live”.

Super Overdrive Live was filmed at the Congress Theater, Chicago for the US TV series Soundstage and originally broadcast in America in July 2009. The show sees Billy Idol, with trademark sneer and peroxide hair very much to the fore, reunited with guitarist Steve Stevens, who played on (& sometimes co-wrote) all his eighties hits. The tracklist runs from early Generation X favourites, through his classic solo singles and up to tracks from his most recent album “The Devil’s Playground”.

TRACKLISTING

1 Super Overdrive
2 Dancing With Myself
3 Flesh For Fantasy
4 Touch My Love
5 White Wedding
6 Scream
7 Eyes Without A Face
8 Cry
9 Blue Highway
10 Ready Steady Go
11 Rebel Yell
12 Kiss Me Deadly

The line-up for this show was: Billy Idol (vocals); Steve Stevens (guitars); Brian Tichy (drums); Stephen McGrath (bass); Derek Sherinian (keyboards).

Did anybody see this when it was broadcast? I haven't heard Billy live since the early 90's with the exception of the accoustic show he did for Vh1 which was kind of boring. I'm hoping this will be good.

I never saw that show, but I did see a German show he did a in 2005. I think I saw it on Palladinum (??) or whatever that channel is that does a lot of concerts.

He sounded really good. It was a really good show. I would love to see that one Blu. He did one or two covers. I want to say Van Halen was one but I cannot remember the other.

I didn't know he was still touring? This show was this past July?!? I saw them twice...once in 2003, and again while they were supporting "IDOLize Yourself". Both times I was amazed at how Billy still sounded great!! Needless to say the band was tight. What can you say about Steve Stevens...just an amazing guitarist. The fact that that Eagle Rock is putting this out is even more exciting. Every Blu I have from them is pretty damn fine. Can't wait for this one!

Default Billy Idol: In Super Overdrive

Has anyone purchased or watched this disc yet? I want to buy it but haven't found any reviews for it. I would hate to buy a dud even though I love his work.

Any thoughts?

And yes, I put this in the movie section with no replies.

Just got this delivered about 30 minutes ago. Popped it in for a quick preview.

Overall, the PQ is pretty good. AQ (DTS-HD MA) on the first song was so-so, but then it seemed to get mixed better. Maybe it was just him getting the nerves out. I don't know, but by song three, it was very good.

This is by no means in the same caliber of concert BD's as the NIN: Besides You in Time BD, but it is still a good one. I would say it is a must for die-hard Billy Idol fans (heck, I've had my hair styled like his since his debut album).

I must say, he looks great for being almost 54. Let's just say, he has inspired me to get back to the gym more consistently after seeing this today.

Anyway, I would put both PQ and AQ at 4/5.

Hi Lou!

Billy looks amazing for someone aged 54! I'm 56 and look like a beanbag! LOL!

Regarding the Concert BD though...I'm gonna be on the fence with this one. I like Billy Idol, but have never been a huge fan. I'll keep my eye out for some really good pricing, and perhaps at $15 or less I would consider it.

Saw Billy a few years ago with Steve. Still puts on a great show, still sounds good. He even got pissed and stormed off the stage, not before throwing the mic at the sound mixer guy because of all the feedback he was getting.

Same old Billy

Talking Somewhat disappointed but still in love.

Ok granted the DVD is totally inexpensive but did I seriously wait years to be jipped on the Chicago Soundstage show?

I was AT that show, literally sweated my butt off for 3 hours... and they only put 12 songs on the DVD? Seriously they skipped HOT IN THE CITY from a concert that was the HOTTEST place on earth at that moment?

Actual songs played (and ones on DVD are starred)
Super Overdrive*
Dancing with Myself*
Flesh for Fantasy*
Touch My Love*
White Wedding*
Scream*
Eyes Without A Face*
Sweet Sixteen
In the Summertime
To Be A Lover
Cry*
L.A. Woman
Blue Highway*
Ready Steady Go*
Jump
Rebel Yell*
Hot in the City
Mony Mony
Cradle of Love
Kiss Me Deadly*
Speed
We’ll Meet Again

It was miserable hot, 100 times hotter than you think it was... but it was an absolutely great show, one of the best for sure (been to over a dozen, as most billy fans have been) I don't feel that omitting 10 songs was necessary, I would have loved to see this concert in its entirety, including when the band tossed bottles of water into the crowd. But definitely if you are going to mention the heat on the back cover can't you include In the summertime or Hot in the City? Mony Mony.... well did they omit for the swearing?

You know I think I am just going thru Billy Idol withdrawal right now.

Also, our car was broken into right out front of Congress Theatre... and even after dehydration and a crime it was still one of the best nights of my life!

Default Okay a little consolation

Ok so on the insert if you open it up, I am the 2nd head back to the left of the crease, so maybe I am not so disappointed. too bad I was too busy screwing around on my phone to notice the photo being taken.

That is disappointing to see they cut so much out.

I'ma huge Billy Idol fan, so I was happy to see this concert, but makes me wish they would have given us the whole thing.

And I don't think that swearing had anything to do with deletion. I know they are from different companies, but my NIN BD has language, I believe in both songs and his interaction with the crowd.

I'll be honest about it:

BILLY IDOL is the coolest and most awesome rockstar of all time, and we need all his eighties vids and TV appearances on BD format, PRESERVED FOREVER. Restored and remastered.
