Default What movies do you think should have been nominated for Best Picture but weren't?

I think the one movie that comes to mind with this is Children of Men. This movie was friggin' Brilliant, and the fact that it was only nominated for two minor awards (Screenplay/cinematography) and lost both was borderline criminal.

This should have been nominated at the very least for Best Picture, Screenplay and Cinematography, as well as editing.

The Departed won for Best Picture which kinda angered me, as I'm a huge fan of the original "Infernal Affairs", and didn't think the Departed was as good as everyone made it out to be.

But let's be honest. It was a Martin Scorcese award, nothing more nothing less. He'd been screwed over year after year, so they gave him that one. He should have won for Goodfellas over this, for sure.

Can anyone REALLY say The Departed was a better film than Children of Men? At least I don't think so.

*sigh*

I just hope more people see Children of Men and realize how just utterly brilliant it really is.

Haven't seen it but I'm a huge Gosling fan.

The United States of Leland is highly underrated in my opinion.

I can. I didn't really like CoM very much. It didn't interest me in the last bit. I couldn't care less about any of the characters or what happened to them. I loved the Departed. Saw it opening day, bought the Steelbook DVD and own it own Blu-Ray.

The Wrestler should have been nominated for Best Picture last year. It was at least in the top 2 movies of last year.

There was no way Titanic wasn't going to win. The hype when it came out was sooooo huge...like the second coming or something. It was number 1 at the box office for 12 weeks straight! I don't think that will ever happen again.

true, but BEST picture? It wasn't the BEST picture by FAR. I can't imagine finding ANYONE who thinks it was a better OVERALL film than LA Confidential.

And I don't mean to be all high and mighty as if only my opinions matter. lol

Not at all, I just was SO mad that Children of Men wasn't at least nominated for Best Picture. Even if it hadn't won, I would have been at least happy that it got the recognition that I believe it should have gotten.

But the fact that LA Confidential lost to Titanic is just an outrage. And Pulp Fiction lost to Forrest Gump, so.... *shrugs*

I actually liked Gump though. And I think I may have liked it better than Pulp, but then again I think Jackie Brown is QT's best film.

I definitely agree with Children of Men. One of my all time favorite films.

The Dark Knight immediately comes to mind as well.

The Dark Knight was an excellent movie but I doubt a comic book movie will ever win best picture. Just doesn't seem to be the way the Academy operates.

Forrest Gump, Shawshank Redemption, one of the best years ever for movies then, why are we arguing about movies that got nods and not movies that didn't?
