Default New Screenwriter to Board Super Max.

hey,

Thanks Vega2k for the update.

WOULD MATT DAMON STAR AS THE NEW GREEN ARROW

Quote:
New news on Super Max has been a long time coming. The state of play was this: Justin Marks was scripting, David Goyer was producing, DC comics’ Green Arrow was the lead character and the plot would see him incarcerated in the tip-topper most high security prison in the DC universe, framed for a crime he didn’t commit.

There have been any number of rumors surrounding the project along the way. Would Matt Damon star as the Green Arrow? Would Kevin Smith direct? Would Lex Luthor, The Riddler or The Joker appear? It has generated a healthy bag full of headlines over a couple of years without actually going into production, or even pre-production. Nonetheless, slow and steady can often win the race and Super Max is still chugging along steadily. David Goyer has spoken to MTV and given an update.

More on Super Max:

Quote:
Marvel is working to unite their most popular characters in an Avengers movie somewhere around 2012, and DC isn't about to just sit back and watch it happen. No, Justice League doesn't seem any closer to happening, but David Goyer-- who co-wrote the recent Batman movies, remember-- wants to unite some DC villains in his prison film, Super Max.

He's been talking up the film for years, but in a recent interview with MTV's Splash Page, Goyer promised the project is still making progress. "We're working on that. We're about to bring on another writer. Obviously, Warner Bros. is now heavily into mining all of the various DC properties."

Enjoy.

Hey,

More on This:

More discussed during the interview about Magneto upcoming film by 2011. Which could be found in this THREAD.

A movie we’ve not heard about for a very long time is breathing some life again. Super Max, the DC comics-based film which would center around the character of Green Arrow stuck in a prison made for supervillains for a crime he did not commit, is still a work in progress with a new writer about to come aboard to help on the screenplay.

Over two years ago now, David Goyer described his unique superhero movie idea titled Super Max by saying the following:

“It’s like ‘Alcatraz,’ and he has to team up with, in some cases, some of the very same villains he is responsible for incarcerating in order to get out and clear his name. Of course, tons of people try to kill him while he’s in there. We’ve populated the prison with all sorts of B and C villains from the DC Universe. For the fans, there will be all sorts of characters the hardcore comic book junkies will know, but they’re all going to be there under their human names and no one is wearing a costume, but there will be a lot of characters with powers and things like that.”

Screen Rant master Vic made the point that the movie may be a tough sell since the Green Arrow is not known amongst mainstream moviegoers nor will the B and C-level villains be. On top of that, it would be difficult for the audience to gain an interest in the superhero character who would be without his costume and weapons that help make him the character he is. It would just turn into an action movie of sorts that combines the television shows Prison Break and Heroes.

Unfortunately, other than some positive buzz about a draft of the script, there have literally been no updates on this project for over a year. Breaking that silence, David Goyer spoke with MTV briefly about Super Max and it’s current status.

“We’re working on that. We’re about to bring on another writer… Obviously, Warner Bros. is now heavily into mining all of the various DC properties.”

It’s great timing for Warner Brothers to be getting to work on this film with the many recent confirmations on their Green Lantern movie, and speculation surrounding other projects including The Flash, a reboot of the Superman franchise and Batman 3.

Their big competitor, Marvel Studios, is presenting all of their biggest characters (that they own the film rights) to and to compete against them, DC will need to showcase more of their superhero lineup.

However, with the other big budget DC films in development, they could do some work to tie them in together, at least partially. We’ve heard speculation for a while now that the Green Lantern film would feature a cameo by the new Clark Kent – which is very plausible now since the Superman reboot is being fast-tracked.

Enjoy.

Just to add latest info for those who have followed this SuperMax topic. It looks like the Horror/Thriller (non-Green Arrow) SuperMax script is a go. The Green Arrow SuperMax is still in limbo, unfortunately.

Here's the details:
