You can't cancel an existing one. If you want to start a new one, you won't be able to carry over your trophies. As far as I can see, your only option is to just stop using your existing account and start using a new one.

I don't know of a way to change your PSN ID, but maybe a call to Sony customer service could help? |

like a lot of people, when i first got my PS3 i didn't put much thought into a PSN ID. i just wanted to get up and running ASAP, i'd get around to a desirable/suitable ID later. should have done that before making my first PSN purchase.
for 2.5 years now i've been patiently waiting to be able to change my ID and take my purchases with me, which as far as i'm concerned should be my right. oh well, there is rarely such thing as an EULA with fair and reasonable consumer protection. i have a friend that moved from Canada to the US, sony would not let him change his country and told him he must setup a new PSN account. the moment he wants to replace his PS3, get a second PS3, or upgrade the HDD he will lose all his purchases made under his first account. your only reasonable option is to setup a new account with a different name and email, rebuild your trophies, and hold onto your original account for when the time comes when you need to redownload your purchases. if you really want to be militant about it you could see if your credit card company would be willing to charge-back all PSN purchases, that way you could re-purchase them all under a new account (not pay twice), and completely abandon the old account (but you'll need a different credit card number since sony would probably blacklist the old one). i don't know if it'd work nor would i encourage this, just an idea. no matter what you will have to rebuild your trophies, but i'd be more concerned about purchases since they have monetary value. or you could do what everyone else does: live with your mistake ![]() |

I agree with the customer service idea. Actually, if you called them and said, "Hey, I need to change my ID for harassment/copyright/legal reasons," they probably would have a system in place for that. This is really no different, except the circumstance is vanity. ![]() |

Secondly, that theory doesnt apply to all. Some people actually ENJOY changing their name based on certain games their playing "religiously" for the time being. Whether its humor based or clan tag based etc. Think outside the box buddy, its not always about "I was a dumbass and chose Gamer123456789" Surely you've seen plenty a folks with PSN names with game names in them. That there alone proves the Demand is there. I like the charging aspect so that way like Derek said it basically doesnt become outlandish and uberly redundant. |

Also, some people like changing things up. If I were a teen though, I'd probably just start over and game my butt off. Ah, the good ol days. ![]() The 360 gives this option as mentioned. I wish the PS3 had it. Recently, I created a new account for my new name. But after seeing all the trophies on my Copywriter account, I decided against using the new name. ![]() Don't care about the purchases so much since I could just re-buy what I actually still wanted for probably $50ish or so. But there's no way I'm gaining (at the time) 210 trophies just to get where I was. And now I'm at over 300 I think, so that's out for sure. ![]() BTW, when I set up my name in 2007 I wasn't aware you couldn't change it. Maybe stupid on my part, but I just assumed (like the 360) you could. |

Meanwhile, I see all sorts of profanity-names running around. Guess that's supposed to be cool or something. |
