Default NS-BRDVD Insignia Blu-ray player

Hi to all owners of this insignia player. Check out the insignia web site, in the ns-brdvd page under the support area they recently announced the upcoming firmware update that will fix some playback issues with some blu ray titles... finally (mid july). Since January I contacted insignia asking for that update and every time they told me that unit could never be updated... that's weird.... hope the information is useful to someone.

thanks for the info, i have one in the basement and a firmware will be welcomed! here is a link so everyone won't have to go searching like I did; they don't make it easy. this link will take you to the page that when the update becomes available, you will easily be able to get to it.

Oh well, the files are gone from the insignia site. Only stayed there a day. Weird. They will propably put them back, I guess. The file worked for me.

The firmware for these units if finally available for those of you who have it. you will need to have "burning" software as the file must be burned as an "image" and not a data file. instructions are on this page as well. best of luck to you!

What does this firmware update fix as well as being the very first one?

I haven't seen any release notes with specific fixes for the Insignia. It should generally be the same fixes as with the firmware updates for the other Funai manufactured first generation BD players (i.e, from Magnavox and Sylvania). The new firmware appears to address the Dolby TrueHD bitstreaming issues with some Blu-ray titles, improves playability for DVD-R discs, and addresses some other disc playability issues.

The is more discussion in the Funai thread:
