THE VEGETABLES OF DOOM!

The killer tomatoes are back! But this time around, they’re going to have to contend with late ’80s George Clooney and his wicked mullet… Is it a fruit? Is it a vegetable? Nope, it’s Return of the Killer Tomatoes!

Ten years on from the Great Tomato War, mankind lives in fear of another uprising by the waxy red menace. Meanwhile, Professor Gangreen – played with gusto by the late, great John Astin from TV’s The Addams Family – sets out to pursue his own evil ends by creating a burgeoning army of tomato militia men (who, somewhat conveniently, look just like regular men).

Following on from the 1978 cult classic Attack of the Killer Tomatoes, Return of the Killer Tomatoes came armed with a healthy sense of its own ridiculousness and would expand upon a franchise that now comprises four films, two TV series and a video game. So what are you waiting for? Make Return of the Killer Tomatoes one of your five-a-day now!

Now we just need someone to release a new edition of the original.

I had a crush on Karen Mistal that had no cure back in the day. Thank God I lived nowhere near LA or there would have been restraining orders.

This is a day one purchase for me.

Never seen these movies but they could be up my alley. Will try and see this before the Arrow release.

Some of the gags might land a little better, but there's no real need to see the original to appreciate this one. There are flashbacks to fill you in on what you need to know, and it stands on its own really well. (The original Attack... has its charms as a pre-Airplane! genre spoof, but it's not aged nearly as well as Return has.)

Totally with you about Karen Mistal, Lyle!

The description mentions two TV series. I'm only aware of the cartoon from the '90s. Is there another?

I've always liked these movies, but have to wonder why they are jumping to the sequel I imagine it's because this one was distributed by New World, and the original was by NAI, bummer

The three 80's era sequels are very close in style and tone to each other but are all quite different in feel from the original.

I doubt it, but it would be cool if they did. I still haven't ordered this yet. Sometime next week I plan to do so. It would make things a lot more convenient if Best Buy had it in stores like Bride of Reanimator but we'll see.

I don't even see it listed on Best Buys site. Family Video has it listed for $17.99. And you can get free shipping with code FKBQ2VZH. I just ordered a copy for myself. Came to just under $20 with tax. Doubt it will be any cheaper anywhere else.
