Arrow I need help finding a projector.

Firstly, I hope everyone is having an awesome 2009 so far. Now, on to my question: I am planning on replacing my projector with a 1080p sometime this year. I've been with my 720p projector for 5 years this April and it's time to move up to a full 1080p projector, to get the most out of my BD collection.

I'm looking for something $2,500 and under. A projector that's supports 24fps and has at least 1600 lumens (but, I can make exceptions).

I was looking at a few projectors: Panasonic PT-E3000U, InFocus X10, Optoma HD806, Sanyo PLV-Z700, Sanyo PLV-Z3000, and the Epson 6100.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks!

What projector do you currently have? If you have a higher end 720p model, you may be disappointed with a lower end 1080p one.... just a thought.

Try a Epson 6500 TOL 1080P Projector. It has great reviews and is close to what you are asking in price with rebates. You will not be dissapointed.

Thanks

Isn't it called the Epson Powerlite Home Cinema 6500UB? but you should know you just ordered it right? I am eager to read your first hand review about that new projector. I agree that with the rebate if I were him I'd buy that projector for $2700 as it seems to be one of the most powerful projectors at a low price compared to others it outperforms!

I preordered a AE3000. The 6500UB is a step better, but the FI is completly broken and doesn't work at all.. while it's great on the Z3000 and AE3000. So if it's a concern to you, you've been warned.

I don't know yet. I may give it away to family, put it on craiglist, or perhaps start a smaller HT in my room.

After experiencing The Dark Knight at 103" (diagonal), I can confirm that big is better and a constant height setup highly prefered. With it's three auto-zoom settings - one each for 1.78:1, 1.85:1 and 2.40:1 - the AE3000 is the cheapest and simplest choice.

I am also thinking of upgrading my 720p Panasonic PT-AE900U, front runner is still the Panasonic PT-AE3000U, for one because I have a Panasonic blu-ray player (DMP-BD55) so I think they would nicely match up, and I also like the picture and possibilities to set up my current PJ, so I'm used to the interface.
I also find the reviews/comparisons/articles on the following web sites helpful:

and http://www.projectorcentral.com

I ended up getting a mitsubishi hc7000 because I just couldn't wait for the panasonics or epson models to come out. Although I really love the hc7000 if I were to do it all over again I would probably pick the panasonic due to it's low price point and features it has to offer. Plus I would go with a CIH setup instead of the 16:9

WriteSimply when you viewed DK on an 2.40 screen how did the changing aspect scenes do?

I viewed it at a 16:9 screen, not a CIH 2.40. The Dark Knight BD won't work with CIH screens unfortunately just from a framing perspective of the Imax scenes. In a 2.40 transfer, they framed the Imax scenes to show the pertinent action within the frame. With the BD, the Imax scenes are shown in full and without frame-shifting. So even if you force your PJ to do CIH (via anamorphic lens or zooming out), the key element in the scenes will be out of frame.

Thanks for clearing that up. I was under the impression that you watched DK on a 2.40 screen and wondered if the imax scenes were a bother on it.

I plan to get the Epson Home Cinema 6100 some time this year. Less than $2k and it has been getting some great reviews, Very bright and good contrast. One review said it would be hard to beat it for the price and that it was on par with much more expensive models. I do not think it has 24fps and was meaning to ask the experts on this site if I should be worried about it.

I was also looking at the Mitsubishi HC5500 but the setup looks to be more difficult and the range for placement was not as good either.

Hey There.

Other than the FI issues that the "Epson Powerlite Home Cinema 6500UB" has, it's an awesome projector. This is my first projector upgrading from a 60" sony SXRD and all i can say is wow! What a difference it makes watching Blu on it. It looks way better than going to the movies. I just built\transformed my gameroom into a Home Theatre with Light control & 110" screen which took me about 6 months to build and im still working on it till this day. I don't really have a review but as soon as I can finish my setup and mount it on the cieling, I'll try to post. It's on a stand right now.

I think with that rebate it's an awesome purchase in the long run.

Thanks

I have not seen the Epson 6500UB or Panasonic PT-AE3000U with my own eyes, but I would tend to favor the Panasonic as the image quality of these two seem to be very similar, but the Panny has a working frame interpolator and also has zoom/focus presets for CIH, which saves you significant money for an anamorphic lens/sled and may (arguably) be a better solution for CIH given the issue of reduction of MTF and ANSI contrast with additional lenses in the light path.

I have seen the RS1 in action, and it is an excellent PJ. Bright, 15000:1 native sequential contrast, reliable, easy/flexible to set up, good looking, and quiet. Cons: uniformity (aka bright corners), and color gamut is significantly off.

I don't know if $2400 is a good deal for an RS1 with 500 hours on it. If a new lamp was thrown in, maybe. Otherwise, I think a good deal for one would be in the ~$1500 range.

How about this guy from Newegg?

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16824248057

Mitsubishi HC5500 - 1080P projector, $1950 with a $300 rebate and a free lamp if gotten by 1/31. Seems like a steal to me, reviews for it are decent.
