Default What Blu-ray Are You Watching Or Just Watched? Give a Mini Review

I'm watching Bulliett right now. Picture looks great for the age of the film. Lots of action, one of McQueen's best. It was one of the first Blu-Rays I purchased. It was one of many cop movies my dad took me to in the 70s. One of the best car chases in movie history (I like it better then the one in The French Connection by far), the 1968 390 CID V8 Ford Mustangs (325 hp)vs 1968 440 CID/375 hp Dodge Charger on those hilly streets of San Franchisco. About a million hubcaps are lost during the chase scene, lol. Speeds during the chase scene reached 110 mph! The extras are good, and they show how much McQueen and the cast wanted to be as accurate as possible in depicting how the police and hospital really worked. If you like Dirty Harrry, think of it as a more realistic depiction of a police action film during that time. I probably payed 3 times what it is going for now. But it was worth it.

Am watching The Dark Knight. Just got it today. Had only seen standard dvd version before and the clarity is awesome, just as it says in the reviews, and going from regular to the IMAX sizes is not a problem. Ledger still would have won the Oscar if he were alive as this is one of his greatest performances. Read director Nolan wanted him for the part after his excellent performance in Brokeback Mountain(another excellent Ledger performance).

I watched SAW VI last night since I got it early.

Movie: 4.5/5
Video Quality: 4/5
Audio Quality: 4/5
Supplements: 4/5
Overall: 4.5/5

As you can tell by my picture, I'm a SAW fan...however, SAW V was a disappointment. SAW VI revives the series in every way possible and is possibly the best SAW since the first one. The video has improved since the last couple films with less grain. The grain is still present, and colors are faded, for the most part. The details on character's faces is decent. The audio transfer is pretty damn good with some good sounds from the rear speakers. This film comes in DTS-HD 7.1 and sounds pretty damn good. Everything from shotguns blasts to the roaring of steam, the subwoofer sounds incredibly sharp and loud. Screams and dialogue come loud as ever through the center and front speakers. The extras are very entertaining as a SAW fan with TWO full commentaries and some extra stuff such as music videos. There's a Making Of video for the maze at Universal Studios of the SAW maze (which I attended) so it was cool to hear how it was done. I just wish that the Making Of the SAW Traps was a bit longer. The other SAW films had this extra and it was a lot longer and more time was spent on each trap, in this one it's pretty quick. And can't forget about the fact that after the credits there's an extra added scene that wasn't in theaters that sets up some stuff for SAW VII!!!!!! This is highly recommended to all horror fans.

Dark Knight was a blind buy for me, got it when it released. An excellent movie, very dark, the best of all the Batman movies I think. It is in another league then the others. I never got into the saw movies, working in the medical field, I have seen enough body parts sawed off, something you never forget.

i just bought and finished cloverfield ive seen it 2 time's but..
such an amazing film really. everything about it. with the hand-held camera work, the creature itself.. such a neat little few scene's not revealing the monster..
and then towards the end, the story kind of unravel's itself. and sort of leave's you with multiple questions as to why? this is happening

i advize getting Cloverfield on Blu, it's got some amazing presentation!

I was watching Peter Jackson's King Kong about an hour ago. The review on this website thinks the film it too long and boring. However, I was entertained the entire time, and I've watched this blu probably 10+ times and DVD more times than that before. It is undoubtedly some of the best PQ and AQ you will ever hear and see. Jack Black isn't in his normal role either, so that's semi interesting.

I just finished watching The Pink Panther (1964).

Movie: 5/5
Picture Quality: 5/5
Audio Quality: 4.5/5
Supplements: 4/5
Overall: 5/5

MGM has simply done a great job with the disc, and I can only hope that when the other classic Pink Panther films are released, they are given the full treatment as well!

Just watched my new acquired import from the UK, "The Bone Collector". Pop asked what I got in today, which was that, and the non-digibook edition of "The Matrix". He hadn't seen TBC, so we popped it in. GORGEOUS transfer for a 10 year old, middle mainstream thriller, which still holds up really well. Great detail, night scenes were flawless. Angelina Jolie was just cutting her teeth in this one, and it's one of Denzel's best. For $15, you can own it as well.

Ninja - 2/5: This movie has some decent fight sequences, if that's all you're looking for. Unfortunately, this reminded me too much of Ninja Assassin, which I felt was a better film. The PQ was pretty good for a direct-to-video release, though. I'd say rent it. It will keep you entertained for an evening, at least.

Well. I did watch Star Trek this past Monday and although I'm not a trekkie . . . i totally loved the movie. I would say this movie should be owned by all blu-ray lovers. An epic movie and hoping they'd do another in the near future . . . . or are they already writing up another story line?

Just finished watching episodes 10 & 11 (out of 13) of 'Mad Men' Season 2. What has already been an incredible series just keeps getting better and better with each episode. I'm glad that Season 3 will be out on Blu in March!

Mission Impossible

Film - 3.5/5
Video - 2/5
Audio - 2.5/5

Really good little action film but the transfer is absolutely appalling. I dont care that it has been encoded in MPEG-2 because handled correctly, MPEG-2 can look great. The problem is that they have obviously taken an extremely old master. There is little in the way of great detail and colours come off a tad soft. Print debris also seems to be a major problem as specks and blemishes parade over the screen. At one point a vertical line ran down my screen. Luckily, there is a fine layer of grain that adds to the film-like look. No DNR, NO EE, but a transfer that comes off as average.

Just watched: The Hurt Locker
Video quality: 5/5
Audio quality: 5/5

Great movie. It was a blind buy for me, but I thoroughly enjoyed it. It's a movie that really lets you connect with the main characters, and feel what they are going through. Well directed movie as well, as the flow is fantastic. My attention was riveted on the screen the entire time.

Video quality was fantastic. I could taste the dust and feel the dry air.

Audio quality was great as well. The movie has great dynamics, from talking and whispering, to explosions. Not once did I reach for the remote to adjust volume. It was a set-and-forget movie.

Buy it. One of the best war films to date. Great film.

I just watched "Pandorum" which was interesting. I love "Aliens" and "Event Horizon" so I had high hopes for this Sci-fi/Horror, but alas it wasn't on that level. It's still an interesting watch. The picture is decent and the sound was extraordinary - made the SVS subs and Buttkicker work hard.

Watched The Wrestler last night, how Mickey Rourke never got an oscar for that performance is beyond anything I can comprehend.

Watched 'Paranormal Activity' again last night, and it reconfirmed what I've always heard: namely, it's what you don't see that scares you.
