Not that MTV shows any, but are music videos shot in HD these days?

DirecTV is getting MTV HD when they launch the new satellite, but I have no idea if they are going to make everyone update their HD package or if it will be the same cost.

I have the Premiere programming and I pay an additional $9.99 for HD Access. I don't know if the HD fee will go up once all the HD channels are offered.

MTV has MTV HD or MHD. But thankfully that's only music videos in HD, I believe.

Most music videos are shot using film. The editing step is important. Most managers/labels then ask for just an SD video which will take the film then scan and edit in SD. Few budgeted for HD video, which can then be downconverted.

The reason for HD not being on the budget is simple: it costs more to do VFX in HD and most music channels/shows are not in HD. But if they gave it some forethought, they know that HD is where we'll be going.

I've been interested/curious as to what prices are going to do in the next few years regarding HD. Feb. 2009 mandates all channels MUST broadcast in digital, and most will go HD, so the prices shouldn't go up, but then again...they probably will.
MTV is supposed to switch to HD sometime this year...if they haven't already. As to when DirectTV will....I would send them an email.

Don't forget that fios also has all of the local channels (at least in my area), plus a few more. We have 2-KOCEHD channels.

Someone had a question about MTV-HD on D*TV.

Here is the current propsed HD line-up to be offered by D*TV in Fall '07 after launch of D10 satellite on Friday July 7. Sat 11 will go up in early '08. But this list seems to be a moving target on the D*TV boards.

CNN
Speed
Food Network
TBS

The History Channel
HGTV
