Default Onkyo 805 Question

A customer came to me with an odd issue on his Onkyo 805... I know these units sometimes have issues with finding the HDMI signal and need to be turned off then on, but he was unable to get an HDMI signal until he unplugged the unit and then plugged it back in, and this issue is a recurring one. He has tried different HDMI cables and such and still has this problem.

I suggested he turn off any HDMI controls, VIERA Link, etc. and see if the problem continues, he will be getting back to me tomorrow to let me know if he is still having issues.

Is there any other known fixes for this?

what kind of display is he using? does he have anything else plugg into the Onkyo that is using HDMI? he should remove everything except the display and switch between HDMI inputs (with nothing but the monitor) and try to go into the setup of the 805, if he is able to get into the setup menu from each HDMI input on the monitor, then more than likely the monitor is not his problem. if he plugs back in any other items he has that us HDMI (do it one by one) and then trouble starts, perhaps that is the item causing the problem. it sounds like classic HDCP handshaking issue to me. if non of these proves to be the issue, and he can't get into the 805 setup menu while on each input of HDMI, then he may have a real issue. tell him to make sure his cables are in tight. if all else fails, then he should contact Onkyo. i have an 805 and it's probably the second iteration of it firmware wise. i haven't had such a problem.
best of luck. keep us posted. that way everyone learns something. you should get all of his gear info because that will keep 50 people from asking what kind of stuff he has. this helps to get quicker results. remember, the devil is in the details!
