Default What's the worst that could happen? Onkyo 805 question

Guys,
I need your advice, I just ordered an Onkyo 805 refurbished, very good deal at $400 w/1 year warranty, I could not let it go even though I'm not ready yet to set up a nice home theatre due to actually living at an apartment but moving pretty soon to a medium size house.
What I have right now is a Sony Dream Theatre DVD/receiver combination with HDMI output only, nice little set up for an apartment but the speakers I just found out are only 3 ohms. I will need to test my receiver to make sure is working right but I'm afraid if I hook up those 3 ohms speakers it will either blow away the speakers or overheat the receiver, somewhere I read that this receiver can manage 4 ohm speakers but 3 ohms, I don't know. Please help this audio ignorant.
