Default Top Receivers $300-$500?

I want multiple HDMI inputs, 7.1 channels and more. So let me hear the top five choices in that price range.

Thanks

The bolded requirement is difficult at this price level. You are probably going to have to get an hdmi switcher/splitter instead.

Top 5 choices:

Onkyo TX-SR607
Yamaha RX-V655
Pioneer VSX-1019H-K
Denon AVR-790
Sony STR-DH800

Kind of amazing what $300-$500 can get you nowadays. This stuff used to be $800-$1,000+ a few years ago it seems.

I messed up. I meant inputs. But I've seen plenty of receivers for around $500 that have 4-5 HDMI inputs. Maybe they were all specials, but it seems a lot are hovering around that price.

I would stick with these brands... they have multiple offerings for your price range / requirements.. thought the 2nd HDMI output is fairly rare...

Marantz, Denon, Pioneer, Yamanha, Onkyo..

Not sure about specific model numbers. You can go to their websites and compare features / price, etc..

If your talking about Hdmi inputs you can find many recievers in that pricepoint I believe the pio vsx 1019 has 4.Also all the ones kelly mentioned have at least 4 Hdmi inputs.

If you meant inputs instead of outputs, then any of the 5 that I listed would meet your requirements.

For my new home theater I wanted the same thing & also to be able to matrix 5.1 to 7.1 as well ample power for my new setup. Picked up an onkyo sr-tx805 with a 3 year warranty and a Antec AV Cooler (too keep temps down) for $450. Meets all my needs and then some. I would look into picking up one of those if you can used. Great receiver and knock on wood I am not having any of the lip sync problems or handshanking that other have reported and it has the old 1.4 firmware.

So what makes a system like the Onkyo 800's much better and worth the price over a 600 or even 700? What does it offer that would make me want to invest in it?

Hands down Marantz 5003

Home Theater Hifi review of its older brother 6003 but the 5003 is very similar in power performance and feature set.

-pre outs
-bench tested at 90 x 7channels
-ethernet port for future upgradeable software
-video upconversion

Marantz quality.

Same List only I changed the last item because you can get it for $499 and has a better powersupply and amp then the DH800.

I have last years Sony 920 and it is under rated for its power and versatility.

If you have the chance to get the Marantz 5003, that would be the best to get, but it may be in the $600-$650 range.
