Default Sammy UN55B8000 Display issues

I picked up this TV at Sears during the VIP Event. Anyway, once I had turned the settings to a more pleasing setting, I could plainly see that the corners were dark. Not completely black, but noticeably darker when the scenes were bright, i.e. outdoor scenes. It was so obvious to me that I ended up taking the set back for a refund. I was able to reproduce this effect on the floor model in front of the sales person.

Anybody else notice this on their sets? A google search shows it may be an inherent problem with the edge-lit LED's.

I am asking because I am now considering going with a Plasma because I currently have a 61" Sammy DLP and don't want to go down too much in size. After all, when talking TV's, size DOES matter.

This is why i am not a fan of edge lit and more a fan of Sony's tri luminous local dimming led technology. I think there is too much hype over thinness not quality. IMHO, no offense

No offense taken, like I said I took it back. In all fairness though, it had a beautiful picture otherwise.

Sucks to get something that expensive and important home only to be disappointed.

Now that you've had that negative experience, it's time for a positive one. You should buy the Panasonic TC-P58V10 from abt electronics for $2700 shipped and be done with it. Larger, better, and cheaper. A legitimate no-brainer.

Or, if you've got money to spend and you want to go UP in size from your DLP, there's always the TC-P65V10 for $4000 shipped.

Funny you should suggest that tv. My research just pointed me to that one. Looks like the one for me. I can't go to a 65" due to space constraints in my built-in center, my 61" has about 1/2" on sides.
