The only example of this I have is Pirates. the movie is all on disc 1 and the bonus features are all on disc 2.

We should never have to flip a disc to watch anything on bd. In bd 50 we trust. The Pirate movies were long and 2 disc sets and all special features were on second disc.

Know what you mean. Pearl Harbour was on a second disc on standard dvd . BD saves the flippin and sports the extras as well all on a single disc.

I frankly hope movies like Lawrence of Arabia, Ben-Hur, and the LOTR EEs aren't squished onto one 1 disc. 2.5 hours is about the max at phile levels of bitrate I want to see.

i really hope they ARE on one disc as i think the majority of people would not want to swap discs half way through

Most of the special features are on disc 2, although some are still on disc 1 with the Pirates titles.

I'd rather have the EE on one huge 200 GB disc. That would be sweet.

It's been calculated that LOTR:ROTK EE can be put on a BD50 with average video rate of over 24Mbps and Dolby TrueHD and still with some space left for 4 audio commentaries in Dolby Digital 2.0.

That sounds ideal to me. I doubt I'm the only one who'd rather pay a few more $$ for a a two-disc release, where the main feature is on one BD50 with bit rates maxed out as much as possible, and any extra features (modulo audio commentaries!) stuck on another BD25 or BD50.

Reds is spread into 2 discs but suposedly that's how Warren Beatty wanted it to recreate the original theatrical experience intermission.

251 * 60 = 15060 seconds

50GB = 400Gb = 400000Mb

400000/15060 = 26.56Mbps

48/16/5.1 TrueHD is 1.5Mbps avg
48/20/5.1 TrueHD is 2.4Mbps avg

The commentaries can be mono (192Kbps).

26.56 - (4 * 0.192) = 25.76

So:

48/16 => 24.26 Mbps avg. video
48/20 => 23.36 Mbps avg. video

HD DVD 30GB:

30GB = 240Gb = 240000Mb

240000/15060 = 15.94Mbps

World Trade Center is also a two disc set. The extras on the second disc are also HD. Thank god they aren't like a laserdisc where you have to change it in the middle of the movie.

Having to change the disc half way through the movie is my only complaint with the LOTR EEs. Bring on a the BD release!

I hope to never have to switch discs for a movie on Blu-ray regardless of the bit rate. I thought it was really stupid that DVD's we a switcher. Kings of New York, LOTR:ED, ect.

I would of thought that switching discs in the middle of the movie was a thing of the past. LaserDisc and VideoCD. I was shocked to see that with DVD and hope never to see it again.

Movies like Lord of the Rings EE, Lawrence of Arabia and Ben-Her would all be great candidates for the first 100 gig disks.

THey all came on 2 videotapes as well. There's nothing wrong with changing discs, especially with a 4 hour movie.

There aren't going to be any 100GB movie discs. They're being proposed as recordable formats only. It's simply too difficult to get acceptible yields with more than 2 layers, that's one of many reasons why you've seen DVD-18 fall out of favor so much, the 20-30% coaster rate.
