Default Can't decide: Panny 50V10 or Kuro Pro-101FD

Need some help here...there seems to be an overwhelming voice in favor of the Pioneer but I write some of that off due to the fact that those voices have been building in head count for years where as Panasonic is just recently a contender.

HDGuru has changed their rating system because of the 50V10 (or maybe because of the advertising banner panasonic is paying for) saying it is the new best...Cnet seems to still rate the Elite series better....and I can't find a head to head review.

I can get a Pro-101FD for $2160

I can get a 50V10 for $1730

What to do...what to do? Is it worth the 30% higher price? When I embarked on this endeavor it wasn't supposed to be so hard....just get the Kuro, and then this damn V10 came along.

Any help is appreciated. If anyone knows of some good reviews please forward.

Get the Kuro. I love Panasonic and always will but as of today, the Kuro is still better.

It's just up to you if that extra bit of picture quality is worth the couple hundred dollars.

KURO wins hands down. If it was the panny against any other company, it would be the panny.

I'm going to against the grain here and say that you should go with the Panny. The difference, IMO, is not great enough anymore for the difference in price. Additionally, you get VieraCast which is pretty cool if you look up YouTube videos as much as my wife and I do.

I say take the difference and get some blu's or put it towards another upgrade.

The V10 is on amazon from a vendor called Electronics Experience out of New Jersey....that price included insurance/shipping.

I thought for sure I was going to get it, but it would we be silly to pass up on the krp-500m.....an ebay dealer has 10 left and selling them for $1399 +200 shipping. There is a way you can use bing search engine and get 8% off a buy it now purchase....so that is the way I am going...or actually I am happy to say that is they way I went!

(you can use ebates.com to get another 2% off)

You won't be disappointed at all. I myself had hoped the V10 would match the Kuro in the hopes of getting a larger set that I would be happy with, but I've seen the V10 beside a 151FD and even though the V10 is very impressive the difference between it and the Kuro is still night and day. This is why I jumped on the KRP-500M myself. I'd rather have 50" of perfection than 58"-60" of very good. You got yours for a great price too. I paid $1700 myself with the tabletop stand. Congrats!

Red face I hate to say this..........but honestly

In the spring of 2008, I was shopping for a plasma panel and due to my finances, It boiled down to 2 sets the Panasonic PZ800U ($2200 at the time) or the PZ850U ($2500). I choose the PZ800U primarily because of the THX certification. I'm extremely happy with it. I'm still in awe everytime I fire it up with some HD material. That being said ,there truly is something about the Kuro TV's that but them on another level...something quite orgasmic in fact. Without hesitation ,I'd buy the Pioneer. Especially at the price I paid for my Panasonic last year.

I'd go with the panasonic. God forbid 2 years from now you have a issue with the tv how would they replace it? My friends sony crapped out and they sent him a brand new tv pioneer won't have anything new to send out

Pioneer will still be honoring their warranty on parts/repairs for the next 7 years. It's not like Pioneer completely went belly up....they just stopped production on the Kuro line.

You will want to buy one from an authorized dealer. Just check out their dealer list on their website for the closest one. I would try to find one locally before buying one online.

I have the 500M as well, and I'm glad I got one of these panels while they are still available. It has the best picture I've ever seen on any display. That's without the ISF patch or calibration.

Get the 500M and don't look back....you'll be much happier in the long run.
