Default ?speaker wire help?

I need some speaker wire suggestions. Last night I bought the Pioneer VSX-919 receiver (waiting for it to ship) and recently got the Polk RM6750 speakers to start my first system. I can't wait for HD-MA audio.

Tonight I need to buy speaker wire.

I'm considering two options
1. Monster S16-50 Standard speaker cable - 16 gauge from amazon
2. Or, 16 gauge speaker wire from monoprice

Both are about the same price.

Suggestions?

16 gauge should be fine, but you don't want to go any higher than that. If this is in-wall, you will need to go down to something like 12 gauge.

why do you say that? 16 gauge is good for up to like 50 ft runs.. I forget the exact Ft number off the top of my head but im not sure why you think in wall would make a difference or not..

I'm not planning to do in wall.

Since there doesn't seem to be much difference in the quality of my choices of wire and they cost the same I'll probably go with monoprice over Amazon. I've given Amazon enough business this year, might as well spread my money around.

Once I get this system set up I'll have to resist the urge to upgrade the center speaker immediately.

I caught this bug in November when stores had great deals on blu-ray players and then learned about lossless audio. My plan to get a player has resulted in getting a new stand, receiver, speakers, HDMI cables, speaker wire, etc. I love it.
