I would give the first Pirates a look but for a really amazing PQ check out The Host. a very good Korean monster pick as well.

If you can suspend disbelief, Crank is a very entertaining movie. The picture and audio quality are, quite simply, stunning.

Some great action movies on Blu ray and I'm not a big fan of action. Try Kung Fu Hustle, well made action scenes, funny, great acting, and yes, bizzarre, it is subtitled if you wan't lossless audio, but it sounds great, but if you can't stand people speaking chinese, there is an english Dub, but it is limited to Dolby digital and isn't as well integrated in some of the scenes.

I would concur with most of what was already mentioned, and add:

"300," has lots of action.
"Akira," if you don't mind anime.
"The Boondock Saints"
"Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children," would probably make more sense if you've played the original video game, but it's still pretty darn awesome.
"Hellboy 2: the Golden Army"
"Speed," can't go wrong with this one.
Any "Terminator" movie.
"The Transporter"

Some great choices. If you want a great drama, that happens to be a comic book movie...V for Vendetta, or Watchmen. Both look and sound great. The Incredible Hulk is a great choice also. I also recommend Doomsday.

Taken and Eagle Eye are both good if you're looking for straight up action flicks.

Fast & Furious was also pretty good....a lot better than I anticipated.
