Recommendation Help!

Well, I'm currently working on a new set-up for my new home and TV. I've found a couple of Speaker Systems, and I thought I'd ask the pro's around here for their opinions.

And BTW, these may suck for some of the people around here, but these are the only ones I'm able to afford right now.

Please tell me which woul be better for my new set-up.

You're looking at those subs for your car correct? The first few????


You're going to get a lot of people saying it won't do HD codecs, etc etc...

but if you're looking for a 5.1 for $200 out the door.... I think one will be just as good as the next.

What t.v. are you looking at?

Im sure you can afford some SONY SS speakers.

Thanks man. Some of those have pretty good prices, which I think I'll be able to afford.

what do you need...Receiver? speakers? or both?

I'm looking for both.

And it doesn't really matter if it's 5.1 or 7.1. But if there isn't a significant difference between both, I'd certainly go with the 7.1.

I'm looking to spend around $400-500.

Absolutely not. Horrible speakers, a guy at work picked up a pair for his area, they blew in a couple of days.

I never thought I'd recommend these but they are 100x better than anything you'll buy at XS and will last longer.

Last year at this time I hit up all the HT stores and came up with my speakers and reciever all for about $500

Sony SS-F5000 $129
Sony SS-B1000 $29
Sony SS-CN5000 $79
Sony SA-W3000 $99
Sony STR-DG710 $179

Prices have gone up a little but I am sure you could still get these speakers and a Sony STR-DG720 receiver for close to about $600. While I don't think the 720 should come highly recommended, my 710 was decent and adequite until I upgraded it. If you could afford to push the budget closer to $700 I would check into getting a better receiver, or just buy a 3.1 system and a reciever now and in a month or 2 buy the surrounds.

I've looked up at some of the links and systems you've posted, and I've found some with pretty decent prices so far.
