Ugh. Is this the way Illumination wants to go? I once thought they were very promising. Now they already have four movies with Minions in it, more planned. They announced a Secret Life of Pets sequel as soon as the movie was showing the first signs of being a hit at the box office and now they do the same with Sing already? Ugh, I say.

Nothing surprising about this. What is more surprising is that Illumination had two big original hits last year, despite them both looking mediocre. Clearly they have something figured out that Dreamworks hasn't.
With continued success, they will just keep dropping more mediocre films for cheaper budgets. No need to go higher quality, when what you got works. |

Not sure what the point is of a Minions 2 aside from the cash. The previous one appeared to lead directly into Despicable Me. I guess they could pull a Wolverine where the first spinoff was a prequel that led into the original film and the next spinoff was set during the same time period as the main series. As for Sing 2, I'll pass. I fell asleep during the first one and I don't even think my 6 year-old cared much for it. |

I am fully aware of all that, no doubt. But as someone who once had high hopes for the studio in the very beginning, it doesn't change my disappointment. 'Pets' was just OK in my book, so that didn't help either. And everyone in my family was kinda bored watching 'Sing'. It bothers me a bit they don't even give it the time to let it breathe, instead they announce the sequel while the first part is still in theatres. Somehow that works the wrong way for me. But I do understand all the reasons why.

Good. Replace him with Trey Parker. If Jenny Slate can be in 2 Illumination franchises, Trey deserves to be, too. He’s better than Seth in literally every way. Better cartoon? Check. Better at comedy? Check. Better at music? Double check. Better filmmaker? Absolutely a triple check.
Also, given South Park’s history with Bono, things should be pretty interesting: ![]() Last edited by Poya; 12-21-2020 at 08:57 PM. |
