Default Inglorious Bastards Sequel/Prequel Possibility

Hey,

Sure you have seen the title of the thread. Sure you are thinking we heard Kill Bill might have a sequel/prequel, you also heard this of almost every other Quentin Tarantino movie out there. What is the difference this time?

Quentin says this time he actually believes that Inglorious Bastards could have a sequel/prequel, the proof is he already has half the story written for a follow up.

Quote:
Unlikely as it seems, could an Inglourious Basterds sequel or prequel actually happen? Well here’s what Quentin had to say this week on British radio when asked about Inglourious Basterds 2. Judge for yourself -

I came up with the idea [for Inglourious Basterds] back in 1998, of Jewish-American soldiers behind enemies lines killing Nazis… but it followed a different storyline… that storyline just got too big, it might have been a 12 hour miniseries but it definitely wasn’t a movie. So I put it aside, and when I decided to come back to it in 2008 I realised it was that story which was growing so large so I took it out and came up with a brand new one, some sequences I kept and definitely the characters were the same but I followed a different story and that’s what we have now.

…I could do a prequel to this. You have to take almost anything I say as far doing sequels and prequels with a grain of salt because I’ve said that about almost everything I’ve ever done. The one thing that could make this more of a reality than the other ones is the fact I do have half of it written. That storyline that I took out because it was too big, well now it’s not too big,
I’ve told a lot of the other stories so that could be done as a movie now. So the fact that half of it is written and the fact that Brad and Eli all wanna do it, you know could actually make the difference. So first we have to see, one, is the movie a hit and, two, do I lose interest?

With a $14m opening day on Friday in the U.S., Inglourious Basterds should have no problem making back its $70m budget once international is included. Critics have rated it 86% on Rotten Tomatoes, and the reaction from users online is extremely positive (it’s currently ranked the 106th best movie ever made on imdb).

Enjoy.

Personally I would have to say I will believe it once it goes into development but who knows. Maybe Quentin actually means it this time.

He initially wanted this to be a miniseries.

A prequel sounds nice, but a miniseries can be pretty impressive. I sure hope that Tarantino knows what he's doing.

I'd go for a prequel... I mean a sequel wouldn't make any sense...

Actually, I don't want him to do this. He needs to go finish The Whole Bloody Affair.

That's one thing about Tarantino. His ADD keeps him away from some projects he's been promising to us.

How crazy would a Band of Brothers type miniseries be of the Basterd's running around France? I doubt any of this will see the light of day but it's fun to imagine. At least we have the movie now and before you know it, it'll be on blu to enjoy again.

I said it earlier I would believe it if I see it happens. He also did promise a 3rd Kill Bill involving the little girl whom the bride killed her mother at the beginning.

Wow, glad I read what Tarantino had to say. I thought this was just a general discussion on a sequel/prequel. My response was going to be "No way!" He hasn't done it with any of his others, but after reading what he said, I guess anything is possible. Here's to hoping.

I think that wouldn't stop him from doing the Whole Bloody Affairs. Isn't he bound by a contract of some sort?.

I think it'd be interesting to see a sequel/prequel in the vein of Godfather Part II. Have the prequel part be with the back story of the Basterds/Shosanna.
[Show spoiler]And since Hitler is dead, it'd be cool to see the Basterds recruit some more soldiers, maybe non-Jewish, and go in and take out Stalin in the sequel part. How Patton wanted to do after WWII.

No, no, it was fine. I wasn't complaining at all. Just expressing something I probably shouldn't have.

A sequel sounds great, but who can predict the future of The Weinstein Co as those guys keep stumbling all over themselves. I was very happy that Inglorious Basterds did so well in its initial weekend. I like it when good movies flourish, and it is never a good deal when a studio goes out of business. I check the new releases for next weekend to see how far QT's film can keep it going in the Box Office. I see two wide releases for next week Final Destination and Halloween 2. Weird to have two horror movies in August going head to head in the same weekend. Who is distributing Halloween 2? The Weinstein Bros that is who! Those guys don't release a movie all year and then release two movies back to back to have them go at the same film going demographic. Not only that, but Halloween 2 goes against another horror flick. If they are too wimpy to release Halloween 2 in Halloween (afraid to get spanked by Saw #1,000) At least release Halloween 2 in the middle of September when the theaters are full with lesser comedies and chick flicks.

I'd rather see a prequel, if that happens imagine us seeing Hitlers rise to power, backstories to all the basterds, the life of the jewish girl after she escapes the attack on her family.

Many options he could go with and I'd love to see.
