I already have a ps3 60gig and I'm debating getting the slim, just to take advantage of the bitstreaming dts hd and true hd. Now my question is, will my amplifier do such a better job at decoding the audio than my ps3? or is there not much of a difference? what do you guys think?

Some people can't tell the difference, but many people believe that the receiver does a better job. Audioholics did a review of the Oppo BD player with bitstream vs PCM, and they said that even with the good DAC (Digital to Analog Converters) that the bitstream still sounded better.
Link to Oppo Review Read the very last paragraph, and it also says it somewhere in the middle of the review |

I just got mine hooked up and at first the bitstream settting was not sending any sound then I switched back to pcm then back to bitstream and it started working and the receiver showing the dolby true hd (kung fu panda). I couldn't really tell which was better but the slim does look much better in my rack and It also now turns off when I turn off my sony bravia tv. I recommend a buy on the slim.

I think if you are only buying it for that reason,I wouldnt I mean 300.00 just for it be less noisey. Is it really that bad? Then again this will be my first Ps3 so maybe I should not be offering suggestions.Im just saying fireman ask your self is $300.00.Worth it being that quieter

I heard about an EBGames promotion where if you take in a fat PS3 + 2 games + $49 they'll give you a PS3 Slim. I *might* do that with my 60GB model (except that I've taken it apart a few times to fix it before...) You got yours for $50, I would totally jump on that deal if I could! |

EQUAL. There is NO difference. Keep the 60gb and get slim if you want a second PS3. No need though to get rid of 60gb just for the slim. |

The only benefit I see is it uses less power.
Bitstream; does not sound better. Lighter; do you carry it often? Smaller; did you have a space problem? The newer "Fats" are quiet And unless you are new to Blu-ray and you need a player that is also a great gaming system, then get one by all means. But if you think replacing your older PS3 is the way to go, I am going to have to disagree. |

For pure sound, just cancel any Processing mode on Ur receiver such as Pro Logic, THX, Cinema,.... Quote:
