Turning on/off slim PS3 with launch PS3 hooked up too

Kind of an odd discovery. Yesterday I finally hooked up my PS3 slim (after getting it at Best Buy when it first arrived) because I assembled my new home theater stand. Anyways, I tested it out last night and it worked great. So tonight after work I wanted to play NBA Jam for PS2. So I turned on my launch ps2 manually then went to turn on my controller and noticed instead of syncing or linking up with the ps3 that was on, it turned on the slim ps3 instead.

Now when I hit the ps button on the remote again it asked me if I wanted to shut down the slim ps3. So I did. Then I turned off my launch ps3 and tried putting the ps remote right next to the launch one to turn it on, thinking maybe the remote signals whichever ps3 system is closer. No such luck, the slim one again turned on. In fact the only way I could get the remote to link up to the launch ps3 without turning the slim ps3 on was too hook it up directly with the usb cable.

I wonder if this is just a really weird coincidence or if Sony has somehow managed the to configure the slim ps3 to take priority over the launch console when they are in the same area?

p.s. I need to take/upload some pictures, the new stand with the new ps3 look pretty nice imo.
