Default Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark 2

Quote:
Paramount is teaming up with Entertainment One to make a sequel to Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark, the 2019 horror movie that scared up more than $105 million worldwide. Much of the creative team is returning, with director André Øvredal set to return and Dan Hageman and Kevin Hageman once again writing the script.

Guillmermo del Toro will be back to write the screen story. It is unclear whether he will be back in his previous role of producer. Logline details are being under the covers. Source

Unless it's getting an R rating, I don't really care for a sequel. The first was not very good.

I loved these books growing up and I'm really happy a sequel is happening. I thought the first movie was fine and worthwhile, and if a sequel gives even a minor improvement I'll be quite happy.

As a kid I was a huge fan of the books. The film was basically a horror film made for elementary school kids who got a watered down version of some of the stories from the book. It had a few good qualities, but overall wasn't very good.

The first was good enough to get me interested in a sequel.

Exactly how I feel.

Not a bad movie, but reminded me of 'Don't Be Afraid of the Dark'.

Ugh it would probably be better to go in a different direction like a new director or a more hands on Del Toro. There was loads of room for improvement.

Doubt it'll be R, due to it being based upon a series of children's books and all.

Yeah, these are children's stories. Not going to be rated R.

Books geared toward kids, published by SCHOLASTIC... Ya see a pattern, a connection here? Did the Goosebumps movies get you fit to be tied?

Just because its based on old kids books doesn't mean the movie has to be a kids movie.
Besides, most of the kids that grew up with those books as well as Goosebumps, are all adults now.

An rated R horror spin on the books would have been much better. Give us actual gore, suspense, and an actual horror movie instead of a poor attempt at a late 90's Nickelodeon special.

Totally disagree here. I was surprised that I found the first one to be very entertaining.

Oh I see, so the movie should take the kids books and grow them up, because you "grew up"? You're right, and I'm totally looking forward to an R rated Fraggle Rock movie, I mean I grew up with it afterall, so it should totally grow up with me and not target the demographic it was originally intended for upon creation. Yep. I hear they're gonna bring back Punkie Brewster as well... If she's not a stripper I'm gonna be very upset.

Btw, these books have been reissued numerous times since they were originally published, so we have generations of kids who know the books... So yeah, you want R rated horror, there's plenty to rummage thru. Books don't grow up, people do... well, they should anyway, ahem. So movies representing the SOURCE(not grown adults) should stay true to it's demographic.

Young people should have scary stories and movies, too. That's kind of the whole function and ethos of the books -- which remain popular with young people today. To take that away and be like "this is for adults now" would just be so funking dumb and asinine.

I enjoyed the first movie (which was kind of ParaNorman lite), so I'd be up for a sequel.

Didn't know there were plans for a sequel. Watched Scary Stories for the first time a few months ago and enjoyed it. Will be interesting to see if they move away from the book.
