Default Blu-ray Stats information - looking for feedback

Hi folks,

I was thinking how nice it would be to have a site that keeps a database of BD releases and stats based on the facts.

Such a site would probably avoid subjective stats (like reviews) in favour of hard numbers, though I am open to having some review stats with agreement from the authors of the reviews - maybe Chad's reviews..?

Anyways, it is bare bones right now. Check it out at http://www.blu-raystats.com/.

The formatting will change, and the giant list will probably end up a secondary page. I intend to add filter options to limit the lists, and stats by studio, etc. This is where suggestions are welcomed - what kinds of filters and stats are interesting?

I may add amazon links (and pricing?). Though click through is not the goal - information is the goal.

Anyways, feel free to post your thoughts here.

Cheers!

BTW, the average domestic box office of all of the BD movie releases is over 65M. Impressive I think!

Cool site, maybe make the individual columns sortable?

Review links would be cool as well.

Also links should open into a new window/tab so your site is still open.

That looks awesome!
You should link to a store you can buy them from as well but that might take too much time.

Default Good Start!

How about adding:
  • Average Bitrate
  • Audio formats (especially if it includes LPCM or lossless)
  • BD sales numbers

The information has to be updated with every release, and that is going to get tougher and tougher to do, so BD Sales number would probably be a hard thing to add and maintain. Bitrate, i dont see the relevance really, Codec is a better indicator IMO. Audio formats tho, would be excellent. Even a "Lossless Yes/No" would be fine.

Thanks for the suggestions.

I think main audio codec should be doable. Bitrates are more difficult to find for all titles.

Sortable by the different columns is planned.

Sales numbers are always changing and hard to keep track of.

Review links might be doable (would prefer to do this with permission of the review site) - links to Amazon are planned.

Cool site. Yes, that struct me immediately (>65M).

It would be neat to see that broken down by studio.

I think so too. All I can say is Sony must have a great marketing arm (look at 50 First Dates, Hitch and RV!).

BTW, the site availability might be in a little bit of flux today because I am migrating servers ... it might take me a day or two to get my head around the new server and make sure all my php code still works...

I think the average bit rate is a general indicator when the codec is included (i.e., a 30 Mbps average AVC encode will often be better than a 20 average Mbps AVC encode though it might not be better than a 35 Mbps VC-1 encode or a 39.5 Mbps MPEG-2 encode). Yes, there are distinct exceptions, but it is often a good general indicator. At the very least is could point out the "high bit rate encodes" we all know and love.

You could probably work with Benes to effect a nearly complete list on bit rates for the video part.

I agree that a column for LPCM/Losses as a "Yes" or "No" would be beneficial.

All that aside, this is a great start and your initiative is a bit impressive.

Ok, I will add fields for audio and bitrate - will see when they can be populated.

For run time, the IMDb link tells you that sort of thing.

Just one other note - there are tags that are currently not visible.

Current tags are:

TV
Box
Music
Adult

Perhaps things like Unrated, DC, etc can also be added there. Not sure how best to display these tags currently...

The clicky column headings so you could sort by studio, price codec etc. will be tres cool as well.

Heheh.

I have bought www.blu-raystats.com so it will eventually move there.

Actually it looks like it is up already! Yay!

Things are still in flux a little with respect to the server but hopefully by the end of the week it will be settled and I will be able to work more on the page(s).

Removed temporary URL - only the new url, http://www.blu-raystats.com/ will continue to update.
