Default Pioneer Elite BDP-23FD or Oppo BDP-83

I'm trying to decide between the 2 which to get. I'm leaning towards the Pioneer as it will go well with my Pioneer Elite SC-05 and can get it cheaper than the Oppo. Just thought I'd get some feedback so let me know what you guys think.

It depends on what media you want to listen to and watch. Both units handle Blu-ray well. The Oppo can play DVD-A and SACD while the Pioneer cannot. In addition, I believe the Oppo has faster response times in terms of drawer opening, disc loading, etc. But as you noted, it costs more. One other feature the Oppo has is source direct, which is useful if you have an external video processor. I am not sure if the Pioneer has this as an option.

The pioneer has features that coincide with my sc-05 and I won't use sacd at all in my bedroom. Thinking that is the route I'm going as all have all def. tech. speakers also. Pioneer bdp-120 for sale. Pm if interested.

After owning the Pioneer Elite 05 and now the Oppo, I will never go back again. Perhaps it's because Oppo only makes DVD/Blu-ray players is one of the reasons why their products are so good. Besides the Ipod Touch, the Oppo BD player is my favorite tech of the year.

Will do. I need to start changing up my a/v rack. I'll be taking pics of it also/update gallery. Only need DT Mythos gem surrounds and supercube III and bedroom is done. It's been an expensive month as I just did a projector setup. The Pioneer 120 just didn't cut it with the sc-05

I got the 23fd and I love it. The oppo is nice but I wouldn't use the audio stuff and the 23fd Look Dope with my sc-27 and Pro 111fd

That sums it up for me on my decision. I'll be testing my 23fd out tonight.

I have the 23 and really love it. I also have the Pioneer Elite 95, which is a very slow loading player. I know that there are BD players that are much faster loaders than the 23, but the improvement over my 95 is vast. Navigating the menus is very fluid with the 23, and a little clunky with the 95. Now to what matters: the picture and sound. First of all, it was simple to hook up. Easier than any other component I have ever owned. The picture is fantastic. I can't imagine that audio could be any better. Other than Blu-ray movies the two channel sound from CDs is perfection. Another thing that surprised me was how good the upconversion on standard DVDs were.

Hi,

has anyone of you already had the chance to directly compare picture quality of the pio 23 and the oppo 83?

And is the 09 so much better than the 23?

BD and DVD quality is about equal important to me. Don't care about SACD an DVD-A.

Best wishes,

Chris

PS: Sorry for my pigeon english (I am german...)

Both the 23fd and oppo have top notch pq and upconverting imo. No the 09 isn't much better than the 23. It has 8 Wolfson Audio DACS and 4gb of internal memory other than that...think it is pretty much the same player. I wouldn't buy the 09 unless you have a ton of money to just spend on that. I got the 23fd quite a bit cheaper than the oppo and it looks better imo. SACD and DVD-a I don't use.

... Thanks a lot. I think I will buy the 23 (more precisely the LX52, the european version of the 23fd). In germany it costs 4 times less than the 09 (LX91). The list price of the LX91 is 2499 Euro.
