Default PS3 keyboard question

last night, while participating in a text chat with a bunch of people from here on PSN, and dealing with typing messages on the sixaxis, which is a pain in the a$$, i got to thinking about getting a keyboard, so while looking on amazon i came across this

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...pf_rd_i=507846

which got me thinking, i have a phone with a similar keyboard that supports bluetooth, is there any way that the i can pair the phone to my PS3 and use that to type messages on PSN??? shot in the dark i know, but i thought id ask the experts on here before buying anything

I don't think you can link a bluetooth phone of any sort to the PS3, let alone use it as a human interface device.

Just buy a keyboard already.

I use a bluetooth keyboard, so if your phone supports a bluetooth keyboard, meaning you could pair it with your PC, than yes you could pair it with PS3 and use it that way.. but I do not know a phone that supports a separate bluetooth keyboard..

yeah, thats what i kind of figured, i only recently started accumulating a good amount of friends on PSN, so until now, i had no reason to get a keyboard, but i figured i would try that before actually buying one, i think i type txt messages faster than i type on a keyboard anyway

If you want a bluetooth keyboard, this is the cheapest one I found when I was searching myself:

http://www.amazon.com/Rocketfish-RF-...1821316&sr=8-1

I bought it and it works just great!
None left on amazon unfortunately (except used). I got mine from Futureshop.

when i looked into getting keyboards that could be used with both the ps3 and possibly a computer i tried both the rocketfish and the ps3 keyboard.

If you want a wireless keyboard that you can use with both pc and ps3 then i would stay away from bluetooth. If you want to use it between both then you have to keep re-pairing it between the 2 devices. Real pain with bluetooth. If you want to use the keyboard/mouse with both a pc and ps3 you should go with a RF wireless keyboard which seems to work best. I set up my nieces and nephews with the microsoft 6000 wireless keybouard/mouse and they can easily swap it between their pc, ps3 and xboox 360 by simply moving the dongle from usb port to usb port. If you do go this route be sure to get the ones that have the longer distance. 30feet or more. The ones that do 3-6 feet tend to have problmes depending on intereferance.

If you only want to use the keyboard/mouse with the Ps3 then i would suggest you go with the Ps3 keyboard/trackpad as opposed to the rocketfish/mouse combo. I tried both. They both connected to the Ps3 with no problems. The rocketfish one didn't seem as responsive or good quality as the ps3 one. May just be my personal preference. I also liked having the track pad as opposed to the mouse that the rocket fish comes with. If your as sitting on a couch its kind of hard to use a mouse.
The ps3 keyboard uses the bluetooth adapter built into the ps3. The rocketfish does as well but also comes with its own bluetooth adapter as well. this makes it very tempting to plug the bluetooth dongle into your pc so you can use it there. I ran into lots of problems with this though. 1st it connected, then when i paired it with the ps3 , then went back and paired it with the Pc it wouldnt' work properly. I unlaoded the drivers and reloaded them but couldn't do anythign to make them work at that point.

I ended up sticking with the ps3 keyboard/trackpad because its made by logitech and you usualyl can't go wrong with them.

Best buy does have it on sale this week for 59.99.

The PS3 one is definitely higher quality, however I was looking for a budget keyboard. When I got my Rocketfish one for $30, the PS3 one was $90. Since all I need it for is to type messages, that hardly seemed worth it. I also don't use a mouse with mine.
On a side note, my rocketfish never came with a dongle

I think there are 2 rocketfish models. The keyboard only one and the one that is 99 dollars which includes the keyboard/mouse and bluetooth dongle. that is the one i was comparing it to. I also foudn the ps3 one handle to move the mouse around on screen as well even when just texting/chatting. That way i didn't have to pick up the controller or use the keys on the keyboard.

Oh, I have el cheap-o version.
Good thing I didn't splurge on the expensive one though, doesn't sound like it's too much better than mine. If anyone has the money, I'd also recommend the PS3 one (Logitech brand). But if you're on a budget, Rocketfish works great too.

If it is only for the PS3 you could also consider that minikeyboard that attaches to the controller too. I don't know if anyone already commented on that.
