Default Blu-ray on component cables/PS3

Hello,
I recently bought the PS3, which is an excellent machine, (traded in glitchbox 360). My HDTV, if you can call it that, is 1080p, but it's a lower end CRT Insignia model (picture quality to me is super, but it's my first HDTV, and i'm not too picky). So it only has component inputs. The games will run 1080p, and unprotected DVDs upscale to 1080p (protected run 480i)

Anyway, my question is, if I runa Blu-ray movie, I know it won't do 1080p without the HDCP compliant device, but with component, will i get 1080i/720p, or 480i/p. I wanted to know before I buy a BD Movie.

Thanks a lot in advance
Steve

You should get 1080i.

Great, thanks for clearing that up, to my not so keen eye, 1080i looks beautiful to me, and I'll be happy with it. Thanks for the help.

You say your CRT is 1080p. Are you sure it's not 1080i? (CRTs tend to be interlaced) Not familiar with the model.

It's an insignia TV, when I used to have my 360, I switched it into 1080p after that update, and it worked, and it said "Component 1: 1080p - 60" in the upper right hand corner. For $699, I was surprised as all hell. Works with the PS3 too.

I'm pretty sure your TV is 1080i not 1080p

I would hunt down the official spec's online by look'n up your model number.

1080i looks really good, but 1080p is of course, the best picture possible, and will be sharper as it is not drawing every other line like an interlaced image does.

but, if your not picky, you won't probably care either way.

The bigger the screen, the more you will notice the diff.. but only if you had a true 1080p next to it, and even then, it might be hard for some to see the diff. But, some can.

Not to come off as an ******* either, but why would a TV company make a 1080P television without HDMI??

You can't pass 1080P over component cables....

The PS3 can pass 1080p over component...

http://manuals.playstation.net/docum...deooutput.html

The more common question though is how many sets can recieve 1080p over component.

[ Add / Edit : clarity ]
Also, that link will answer the question regarding Blu-Ray, the PS3 won't output Blu-Ray at 1080p over component [games are a different matter] due to HDCP constraints etc etc. So hence my reply looks a bit wrong and out of place given the context of the conversation .

Maybe his TV accepts a 1080p signal and down converts it to 1080i? Of course I can't really see a brand like Insignia even accepting a 1080p signal. But, if it worked when you tried it maybe it does really accept it.

Odd that there. The only HDTV CRT I see Insignia having out is a 30in that tops out at 1080i. Not saying that it doesn't output 1080p, but it's odd.

Can ya share the product id maybe easier to discern it.

The Xbox 360 does it. So does the PS3.

http://www.insignia-products.com/pc-...eo-inputs.aspx

That's the model I have, so maybe it does downconvert to 1080i? It says 1080p -60 when I run a 1080p device, but I'm not that big of a videophile, so it's hard to tell to me (That's why I only have a $700 TV).
