I'm looking to buy some new speakers. I already have Polk LC60i in-ceiling speakers and Polk TC265i in-wall speakers, and love the sound of both of them. So, just looking for Two floorstanding a center, and a sub. I've looked at and listened to the Polk RTi A7 and the Definitive Technology BP8B. I like how both of them sound, having a hard time deciding which ones. I think I'm leaning toward the RTi A7.
Any thoughts on the Polk RTi A7 or Definitive BP8B? I would like to spend about $1,500 to $2,000. So if anyone has any other speakers they would like to recommend, I'll put those into thought. Whatever floorstanding speakers I get, will determine what center speaker I choose. Also need some help on choosing a Sub. Last edited by Creeping Deth; 09-09-2009 at 09:32 AM. |

Both Brands and Both Speakers are Great Performers. The Bipolar design of the Def Tech's give them a great full, encompassing sound. They are very popular with many members(and I like the sound of the Def Tech Bipolars as well)
The Polk RTi A Speakers are great sounding speakers in my opinion as well. You have picked 2 different speakers that I really like both of. A lot of the choice will come down to how you feel about having bipolar speakers with the Def Techs. Some people love the full sound while others feel as if they distort the imaging somewhat with the 2 sets of drivers on opposite sides of the cabinets. The Polk Audio RTi A7's can be purchased for $599 a pair. This is at the Polk Audio Direct Store on E-Bay.It is an official Polk Audio Outlet for refurbished speakers(some re-worked some just returned due to a scratch, and some just open box with no issues) They all carry a warranty from Polk Audio and are a Great Buy.A lot of purchases have been made there all with outstanding feedback and happy purchasers. Here is a link to the Polk Speakers: http://cgi.ebay.com/RTi-A7-Black-Tow...4.c0.m14.l1262 I am sure there will be many other members who will chime in with great choices and insight into some great speakers to purchase. If I had to choose one I would go with the Polk RTi A7's but as I said earlier, either speaker makes a good choice. Just take the time to audition and listen to some Def Techs and see if the Bipolar sound is one that sounds good to your ears. |

I have had the BP8B for like 10 years now and everyone that still hears them wants to steal them. I would get those. Amazing bang for the buck. Mine get used for everything like Movies, Surround Sound Gaming and Music ranging from Heavy Metal to Techno and random 80s pop. So they are an all around good speaker.

I personally like the Def techs more then the Polks.
I would throw in serveral brands for fronts that you should consider too. Paradigm, just heard Mini Monitors/Atom Monitors yesterday, and they are very nice HT speakers. Music was very good too. First set of below $500 speakers I've heard that can give my Energys a run in terms of music sound quality. Monitor Audio, gonna hear them today, but the reviews all say there is no better speaker for $1100 then the RS6 (can't wait to hear them). Energy Reference Series can find them at Vanns.com at Half off. Bowers & Wilkins 600 series PSB Image series Dali Concept Series There are many other speakers you can listen to also, Like today I am gonna also hear some Dali's too, and the dealer said, I think they are slightly better then the Monitor Audios, but it would be a coin flip for me.. they are both that great. Subs there is the Energy ESW-V10 $299 online, I heard the S10.3 from Energy and was WOWed, turned up only a 1/4 of the way and it was bangin... and the V10 is supposed to be better, then there is the eD A2-300 everyone talks about, SVS, Hsu, Epic, Def Tech Supercubes that are all great performers with great reputations too. Best thing I can say is go listen, you live in the OC, there are speaker dealers everywhere that have tons of speakers. You can do a lot better then just asking everyone on here what we think... yes its helpful, but to hear them yourself will answer the question... what speaker should I get?! I have been listening to speakers all over the place for a month now and I can say there are SO MANY good speakers out there that you have to go listen for yourself. Kef, Dynaudio, Totem, all ones not talked about that are great too. Lastly, I have the same reciever you do, and I heard the RTi A9's hooked up to a Denon 3808 I thought the RTi's wanted more power, I am not sure you are going to get enough power for the RTis from your receiver... and you don't have a way to hook up an external amp or Bi-amp. I would take your 920 with you next time you go to hear them and see what you think. Last edited by callas01; 09-09-2009 at 04:05 PM. |

I have to agree with Callas beeing a freak of Audio I went to The Montreal Sound and image show and heard alot of the speakers he mentioned including Totem, Kef, Paradigm Studio and Signature Series which I heard before in Store, PSB image and those speakers IMO brings the Music to life compare to Polks and home theater is amazing too, Nothing wrong with Polk it's a name you can trust unlike Bose but Give chance to other speaker brands and you'll probably be blown away by their Sound Quality.
Not to mentionned that I was lucky enough to listen to Thiel CS3.7, Martin Logan CLX and Focal. Those are totally out of my price range lol. Last edited by BigAl87; 09-09-2009 at 04:20 PM. |

How did I miss this topic? Polks, and Def Tech?
![]() Anyway, I love my BP6b's. The nice thing is that you can probably find them for about $400-450 now if you hunt- that's less than I paid. I agree with Callas though and think you should try and listen to some more speakers unless you are completely smitten with a particular set/brand. |
