Thumbs up Good looking player!

This is the player with the "quick-start" feature, isn't it?

It's nice looking and very compact.

Now if its specs are good and has HDMI 1.3 and BD profile 1.1 it will sell very well.

More than anything, it will say to consumers that Blu-ray is much more widely supported than HD-DUD.

Hmm, any mention of DST-HD Master Audio or Dolby TrueHD decoding?

If not, how about bitstream transport of either by HDMI 1.3?

As of now, Sharp has released on preliminary specifications for the Blu-ray player. It has already been dubbed BD-HP205.

What we do know is that you can expect 1080p output capability at both 24fps and 60fps. You can also expect in-board Dolby TruHD decoding to be packed into this Blu-ray player

The Sharp BD-HP205 player is also slated to have full support for HDMI v1.3. It is also expected to include analog 5.1 outputs as well.

Regarding the new ‘Quick Start’ feature; this player is apparently able to load a disc in a few seconds after being inserted into the tray. This feature is most likely to be welcomed be Blu-ray patrons who are well aware that previous Blu-ray players tend to be annoyingly store.

Stay tuned, for more details are likely to come out soon.

I wouldn't normally buy a Sharp DVD player, but Sharp with Aquos, and I'm there.

I'm toying with the idea of just sticking it out another year with upconverting-DVD until we get the 1.1, but the right specs on this model could change my mind.

With the Sharp being released in Q4, odds are it'll be Profile 1.1. IMHO, launching a new player in Q4 (but before Oct. 31) that isn't Profile 1.1 would be pretty stupid. In fact, I'd go as far to say that launching *any* player from now on that isn't Profile 1.1 compilant would be stupid. It's not as if the spec hasn't been finalised or anytihng...

Hopefully the setup will have the option to dim the displays or turn it off altogether. Those two rings might be too bright for people with PJs.

Sleek though I would've liked if the tray was flushed together with the front/top dashboard.

October is part of Q4. If they release it between Oct 1-31, it doesn't HAVE to be 1.1 compliant.

Exactly, companies will want to get their latest non-profile-1.1 players out before Oct 31st so that after then they will still have a cheaper model available to sell. Anybody who doesn't have such a player out by then will be at a competitive disadvantage as they'll only be able to sell a more expensive profile 1.1 player.
