Default Blu-ray on older "HD-ready" Mitsubishi TV?

Perhaps a naive question, but I have a 6-year old large screen Mitsubishi that claims to be "HD-ready," but no HDMI inputs. A careful reading of the back of the Mitsubishi manual seems to indicate that the TV will accept (and display) 1080i via the HD component inputs. So, several questions:
1. What's the right way to get closer to Blu-ray quality out of a Blu-ray disk
on this TV? A little bit of research seems to say that most Blu-ray players
will only display 1080p out of the HDMI outputs, but not the component
outputs. Am I reading the Blu-ray documentation correctly?
2. I've seen several HDMI-to-component converter boxes, but will I run into
1080p-to-1080i conversion problems?
3. Am I trying to do this the hard way, and I should just go buy a newer
1080p HDTV?

Some help that would keep me from making an expensive mistake would be most appreciated...

Just connect it via Component, and you'll get the best PQ your T.V. is capable of....

Enjoy!

Default Blu-Ray disc player...

Thanks! The Blu-Ray player I currently have only has HDMI and standard Audio/Video (red/white/yellow) RCA outputs. Do you know of a Blu-Ray player that has HD-like Component outputs (as well as HDMI), or do I have to buy a separate HDMI-to-Component converter? I've looked at several (like the Sony), but the manuals seem to imply that you only get HD from the player through the HDMI output... am I reading these incorrectly?

There are a bunch of BD players out there with component outputs

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage....=1218070353057 - here is a panasonic one for example.

If you go to Best Buy's website there is a sort option for outputs, component being one of them.. there are 21 total BD players with component outputs

Another option you have would be to purchase a receiver that would output in component and hook your hdmi up to that.
