Default Question about my PS3 playing DVD's

My PS3 has an upscaler on it, and I have a question about Aspect Ratio. My TV is a 32" 720p Toshiba HD LCD TV. Ok, I have my picture size set to "Native", which shows more picture than "Natural" setting. I put in some dvd's, while it was on native, but it was showing a white line on the left hand edge. I put it back to natural which was crooping the edges of the image. I have my upscaler set to full. I think my TV is 16:9. Now, I want to purchase some dvd's that say this

Aspect Ratio: Anamorphic Widescreen - 1.78
Aspect Ratio: Full Frame - 1.33

Will I be able to watch them in the Native resolution and see all of my picture, but not have that white line? Is there a way to get rid of that white line on my DVD's but have all of the picture, filling up my screen? Any help is greatly appreciated, thanks!

I never had a white line when i watch dvds on my PS3 but from my knowledge, if you have the PS3 hooked up through HDMI cables, you shouldnt be able to change the size. I remember trying to change the size and it wouldnt let me.

The "native" setting on your TV should be fine, since it should display the complete picture without cropping it. The PS3 should be set to 16x9 wide screen mode.

The white line that you see is an issue that I cannot fully understand. Is it visible only for some DVDs or can you see it for all DVDs.

The DVDs marked as 1.78 anamorphic should fill the screen in the native mode. If those DVDs are super-wide movies (aspect ratio 2.35:1), you would see black bars on the top and bottom of the screen.

So far it has only been one DVD. I will try some others to see if it still continues, I do have my PS3 hooked up through an HDMI cable. So you are saying that the DVD's that I am about to purchase, the 1.78 widescreen, should fit perfectly in my native setting? Thanks for helping me by the way.

If the DVD is labeled as 1.78:1 anamorphic wide screen, it should fill a 16x9 HD display. However, you need to be careful because DVDs could be mislabeled. In some cases, although it is labeled as 1.78:1 anamorphic, the material could be a 2.35:1 scope (super wide) movie. In this case you would get black bars on top and bottom of the screen. Do you have any links to these DVDs?

I have checked your links.

The one you have: Aspect Ratio: Full Frame - 1.33

This means that it is 4x3 movie (i.e. 4x3 squarish old crt type),. It is not wide screen (i.e. 16x9 or 1.78:1, e.g. HDTV broadcast) or scope super wide (i.e. 2.35:1, e.g. Braveheart).

If it is a 4x3 DVD, you should see two black columns in two sides (provided you have configured your setup correctly). If this is the case, you may see a white line if it was in the original movie or it is a transfer error. This will only apply to that DVD I expect. This could be in other similar DVDs if it is a common transfer error.

The new disk:
Aspect Ratio: Anamorphic Widescreen - 1.78
Aspect Ratio: Full Frame - 1.33

This is really confusing, Almost looks like an error. One movie cannot have two aspect ratios unless aspect is changing in the middle of the movie like TDK. TDK changes from 2.35:1 to 1.78:1 and vice versa.
May be this DVD is like that. changing from 1.78 (i.e. 16x9) to 1.33 (4x3) and vice versa.

Either way you shouldn't see a white line unless it is a common error to both DVDs.

Is it on the very edge of the screen? If so... you may just need to go into the tv's set up menu and adjust the screen positioning. It could be slightly off.

Thanks! I purchased Gungrave (the one that has the 1.78 Anamorphic widescreen), and there is no white line, the picture fits perfectly on my TV and takes up the full screen. Also, I have tried my TV's setting and have not yet found a way to adjust screen position lol, time to pull out the old manual I suppose.
