Default Will PS3 play ".ts" files?

I've noticed that some HD television recordings end with a .ts extension. Will the PS3 play that type of file? And what about .avi's? Are those unsupported?

There's no definitive answer because .ts and .avi are containers, so they may or may not work, depending on the codec used.

I have only had a couple .avi files that did not work, never tried .ts files I think those are used on dvds so they might work.
