I have an HSU research sub, I have absolutely fallen in love with it. I listened to sunfire, Velodyne, eD, Polk and earthquake. I found the Polk was not nearly adequate, and that the velodyne and sunfire were just too expensive. I have also heard great great things from SVS subs. I wasn't able to listen to them, but I know between HSU and SVS you will find great subs. From HSU research check out the ULS-15 and from SVS look at the PB-12 plus. Both are in your price range. I have noticed something similar from other companies run in the $2k range. Another option you have is doing two subs to even out the bass distribution. You can usually get package deals from both of these companies. For two look at HSU VTF3-MK3, I have this sub and its great. From SVS look at SB-12 plus

Hi Nathan,

If you can go a hair over that plus shipping, you might consider the Epik Conquest with 18" driver. I have one that I like very much. Once I am in my new house with new listening room/home theater I hope to get a 2nd for my system.

http://www.epiksubwoofers.com/portedconquest.html

The Conquest at present is out of stock costs $1599 plus shipping of about $220 to $300.

It is one of the best rated subs by Craig's Subwoofer list (at the time #2):

Are you going to get a replacement amp for the A5-350? If so are you going to sell it?

Nathan, do like Big Daddy & get or build a passive sub. Then buy a dedicated out board amp to power it.

Paradigm Studio sub 15 or the Servo would be my first choice, second would be JL audio sub in that price range.

Sub 15 specs

Design patented built-in Ultra-Class-D™ power amplifier, Single high-excursion driver, USB port, sealed enclosure
Amplifier: High-Current, Discrete Output 3400 watts Dynamic Peak / 1700 watts RMS Sustained
Amplifier Design Features Auto-On/Off, Trigger-On/Off, soft clipping, thermal protection, electrical shorting protection
Bass Driver(s) 380-mm (15 in) RCR™ mineral-filled co-polymer polypropylene cone
Low-Frequency Extension* 12 Hz (DIN)
Subwoofer Cut-Off Frequency Variable 35 Hz - 150 Hz; Bypass option
Sub. / Sat. Phase Alignment Variable 0° - 180°
Frequency Response:
Line-Level Input RCA (S/E) Left and Right or Sub-Out / LFE or Balanced XLR. From Sub-Out / LFE-Out of preamp/processor or other line-level source
Line-Level Input Sensitivity 100 mV Mono
Line-Level Input Impedance RCA: 10 k ohms; XLR: 20 k ohms;
Height, Width, Depth
(Height includes spikes or outrigger feet) 49.5 cm x 49.5 cm x 55.9 cm
19-1/2 in x 19-1/2 in x 22- in

Paradigm's signature sub 25 goes down to 9 hz (din) but i think is around $4000 or more.

In that price range I would recommend a pair of subs if you have room for them.

+1,0000,000

If you have the tools and the time, build a subwoofer box yourself. If not, ED will build one for you. ED is currently building a ported passive subwoofer box for me. I do not like plate amplifiers. They are made for Mickey Mouse and break down easily. I love external amplifiers with massive power supply and kick-ass heat sinks.

Rythmik Audio also offers very good Direct Servo subwoofers.

Rythmik Audio F15 Direct Servo subwoofer, $700 to $900 Factory Direct, depending on finish.

Rythmik Audio D15 Direct Servo subwoofer - Signature Edition, $1,000 Factory Direct.

For explanation of Direct Servo Technology, click on the animation.

Default Mark Seaton Surmersive

If you can spend around $2000 I strongly recommend Mark Seaton's SubMersive. http://www.seaton-sound-forum.com/post?id=1945927

This is simply the best sub for the price (Dual 15" drivers) and scary good bass. My friend has owned one for several months now and the SubMersive is an absolutely incredible subwoofer. This is the best deal going for a packaged subwoofer product. I believe if you DIY you will save some cash though.

I havent contacted ED about it yet, the last time the amp went bad they replaced it, this is the third time this sub has been down,
1>blown driver
2>blown driver and amp
3>blown amp (the driver is 100%)
-----
when the driver and the amp blew last time ED said i blew the driver and that is what blew the amp, so i had to pay for the replacement driver , this time the amp keeps blowing fuses as soon as a signal gets sent to it, i took the driver out and checked it and its fine. I am going to contact ED and it get this one fixed, but enough is enough, 1500.00 is my limit, right now im currently running two subs, and so far this is what im highly considering:

thanks guys for the help. TWOvsONE is what im trying to decide

for 1500 you would be very happy with the Sunfire True Subwoofer EQ-10 amplifier output 2,700 watts rms plus it has a automatic EQ mode or manual EQ Mode I have 2 ,I think it blows all subs away but 10000$ JL Audio

Last edited by BLUTRIG; 09-22-2009 at 02:32 AM. Reason: JL Audio not JB Audio

If I had $1500 for a sub I'd save up a bit more and get this:

Seaton Sounds:
SubMersive Subwoofer - (New orders available to ship the week of Oct. 12th-16th - pending expected parts arrival)
DSP Controlled (manufacturer only) 1000W ICEpower amplifier
Dual 15" sealed subwoofer.
$1,995 + shipping (typ. $115-135 shiping cost)
$1,895 each + shipping for multiples or for current SubMersive owners.
NEW real wood veneer options with magnetic grills
Black oak finish - +$100
Clear/natural cherry or maple - +$200
Red cherry or espresso stained cherry + $300

I have been reading and studyin, my biggest decision right now is two vs one, im considering getting another ED a5-350 and stacking them, ED is replacing the amp for my a5, I spoke to Brett @ ED today(the dude knows his stuff). I was honestly going to go with another company, but I realized im an ED customer, ED is getting my business, they really do deserve it. Thanks for putting up with me ED!! you guys are making me deaf!

so what to do? another a5-350
a7s-450
a7-350

If i plan on running two another a5 would make since wouldnt it?
But two or one big a7 monster?
