Default Licence to Kill picture glitches on 2 different copies

I have a Curtis DVD1100UK Blu-ray player which works perfectly with all the discs I've played in it except Licence to Kill (Canadian region A).

The film plays perfectly well, except in two scenes where I get momentary picture break up across the middle of the screen. Once just after 43 mins where Anthony Zerbe is in the cabin of the boat while the captain is controlling the Sentinel craft filled with drugs, and a later seen in Bond's hotel room with Q, Carey Lowell and Talisa Soto.

Axel Music, where I bought the disc, sent me a replacement which glitches in exactly the same two places and in exactly the same way.

Unless Axel have got a faulty batch, or there's something on the disc which my player doesn't like, I'm at a loss to explain.

Does anyone have any theories on this?

Haven't heard of any glitches with this BD. It plays fine in both my Magnavox and Sony players. I didn't know Curtis made BD players. Have you searched for a firmware update for your model?

I've updated the firmware on my Curtis. I had to in order to get it to play anything on LTK past the menu screen.

I've heard that's possibly the crappiest stand-alone blu-ray player on the market. I'm not surprised it's having problems with the Bond disc.

That's unfair. It was only £70, and it's handset hackable to make it region switchable for both Blu-ray and DVD. You try finding that facility in a £200 Blu-ray player off the shelf.

Besides, I also have a Sharp Aquos Blu-ray player (£250 retail), and there's no noticeable difference in the picture quality between the two. I'd say the Curtis actually upscales DVD better than the Aquos which, for lack of a better description, over-scales DVD terribly to the point where I get image outline shadowing and picture breakup.

I'm not talking picture quality, I'm talking the actually build quality of the machine itself. I've read a ton of really negative things about it, especially when it comes to freezing playback, incorrect output resolution, unresponsiveness, crashing, shutting off for no reason, etc...

Just a lot people talking trash about how it functions (or doesn't, in this case). That's why I'm not surprised you're having reliability issues when it comes to playing this Bond disc.

If you also have a Sharp, did you test LTK on that machine? If it works fine on that player, then it's likely your Curtis player that's the problem. Which is unsurprising.
