Anybody using a cable booster?

Heres the story; We moved into a new house because we got a great deal because the housing has come way down. So we bought a 3700sq ft, 6bdrm, 3.5 bath, 3 car garage house and can you believe it only has 1 (yes, you read correctly) ONE!!! cable jack, and that was downstairs. So I had to run a cable upstairs from the outside of the house into the soffit, into the attic and then split it into the 5 bedrooms upstairs. My room is upstairs and I hooked it to my comcast HD box and the cable is horribly fuzzy so I bought a cable booster for $4.99 on ebay because the cable guy said it would fix the problem. Has anybody else used these? Do I put it before, or after the splitter? Also I'm thinking since my modem runs off the crappy cable connection, that perhaps this booster will strengthen the internet as well....?

i've got internet, phone, tv, radio all coming thru cable, so the cable company installed a cable booster for me free of charge. i can vouch that they do work, my internet is faster, and tv, radio, phone are all clearer. but they also put in a high quality booster, probably around an $80 value. i'd be hesitant to say a $5 booster would do much good or even support frequencies for more than just TV. TV and radio work up to about 700 kHz range, but anything digital like phone or internet run up to 2GHz range.

The one I bought from ebay is normally $40-50 but I was able to get it for $5. So, I figured I'd give it a try and buy a better one if need be. Nice to know they actually work well from what you're saying.

Phone, TV, and interent froma CATV company stay below 1GHz. Comast only uses 1GHz splitters in my area. We are on the upgraded cable plant which is around 870Mhz. The old cable plant was only 550Mhz.
Satellite will go to 2 GHZ but not CATV.
