Thumbs up Upgrade decision.. new reciever or amp?whats your opinion.

Hello all!
I was at my local Bestbuy and came across a SC 07 that I may be able to get for $999. Right now im running a older model elite 91TXH and been wanting to gain ICE elite status. However a emotiva xpa 5 has been on my radar as well. Im running a 7.1 def tech system ...what would be the better purchase of the 2? I want better sounds but keep in mind I live in a apartment so I cant crank it for the whole world to listen. Im looking for something that I would notice a significant difference in my audio experience. Should I upgrade to the sc07....or keep my old elite and hook up XPA5. What do you think? I appreciate your help!!

Between the two I'd get the amp for sure.

You already have a Pioneer Elite receiver and not sure you'd get the most bang for your buck by upgrading to one of the newer ICE Elite receivers. By getting the amp, you should be able to "hear" the difference, and the amp will probably stay in your system longer than your receiver. Upgrade the receiver sometime later.

I was thinking the same thing. I just needed to get a 2nd opinion and it turns out the amp would be the better purchase. Much thanks 2 all!

I agree with rded, with those speakers, you should hear a noticable improvement in clarity over what your 91 is doing, as you will benefit from an increased dynamic range with a lower THD. Unfortunately, receivers are not very efficient, since they need to provide the power and processing among other things. I believe the 91 has pre-outs, right?

EDIT: You guys are fast, I thought i was going to be post #3, but I'm post #6!

Pick any one of these answers. They are all correct. Go with the amp.
