Only played FFVIII a couple of times. Tempting to play that instead of VII on the 'go but no clues to a western release?

After VI it's the best FF.

Tip: Don't level if you can help it...

I remember FFVIII has really easy levelling with the 'island closest to hell' or something like that monsters + the item that puts you into limit break.

Easiest way to win - meltdown, aura stone, limit break.

Lionheart special does 17 hits at 9999 damage plus 7 hits of a regular limit break giving 240k damage in one hit. Enough to take down all but the Ultimate/Omega weapon in one hit.

Can non-backwards compatible PS3s download PS1 games from the PSN store? I had to sell my PS3 couple months ago and need to buy another one.

FF8. It only takes 1,000 exp points for each level up, making it fast and easy. The catch is that the creatures level up as well. The trick to building your characters in FF8 is to utilize the draw / junction system to build your stats and keep your levels low. This is easier said than done because of how easy it is to level up. Still, easily one of the best FF games and one of my all-time favorites. It just goes against the grain of role playing games where you're actually better off by NOT leveling up. It definitely involves a different sort of strategy.

This is my Favorite FF. Hope it gets an NA release soon!

It was always fun to hunt all the GF's and fight Malboros. And that Yojimbo guy was awesome! "YO"

The music is this game was really good too... and the parts that you get to play as Laguna

Hopefully a EU store download isn't too far away.

I still have my PSone save game of this where every character was over level 90 (a few were 99) and my main guy had close to full stats. Lots of junctioning involved.

I wasted sooo many hours of my life on that game....would be awesome to do it all again.

You and me both. The last time I played it I was over 140 hours. Collected all the ultimate weaons, unlocked everyone's limit breaks, maxed out all junctioning and stats, etc. Did everything there was to do in the game...with the one exception of beating Omega Weapon. One of these days I have to go back and try again.

Magic should be used for junctioning only, items should be used in battle instead.

Agreed, on account of it lowering your stats if you do. I only used magic if I was really in a bind.
