Default Rented my first BD's at Blockbuster

Called the two closet BB's out of 15 in the local Grand Rapids Michigan phonebook about BD rentals.
The first said that they were supposed to have them but did not receive theirs yet.
The second said that they had the new release titles out, and would have the catalog titles out in a few hours.
Two hours later I mosey in and sure enough they had around 30 titles in the new release dvd section.
I asked if they had anymore and one of the clerks was just wheeling out a cart with 120 catalog titles to put in their center isle BD only section.

I thought I would be the first to actually rent BD there, but my son wanted to rent a videogame, and in the meantime two others rented BD's so I was third.
I was actually quite suprised to see two others renting BD's right after they put them out, and beleive that as few people as there were in the store at 2:30 in the afternoon...that there were actually more BD rentals than dvd during the 15 minutes I spent in the store.

Yeah, I just went to my blockbuster and they had them. I was surprised because it's a smaller store. I only saw about 30 of them in the new release section. Did not think to check anywhere else. Not one of them was rented. But some lady brought one up to the counter, and they asked her if she had a blu-ray player, her reply "what is a blu-ray?" Then some kid is like, I have blu-ray player in my Wii. Oh man....

They need to work on their online catalog, because I everything in my queue is Very Long Wait, Long Wait, or coming soon!

I know, I am thinking of switching from Netflix, just because now you can get them in the stores. But it seems the stores don't have as many as online. And everything online is very long wait. At least with Netflix, usually there isn't that long of a wait.

The manager said they would be getting more every week for the next few.
He also said that although he had no exact date for when, that fairly soon there would be day and date releases.

I don't have a BB online account , but may get one because you can actually take back BD's and replace them in store...which is something I wasn't aware of.

that is why i am thinking of switching from netflix. Especially since every bd that they had was available. The only problem was the selection. And I am sure that over time people will rent them. Although you can pretty much rent any PS3 game they have.

What i have been doing for the last few months with the 3 at a time plan. When i enrolled the 3 at a time was 17 or 17.99 month. For 17 dollars a month i am getting 6 movies a week. I rent 3 BD's online. bring those back to the store and exchange for 3 regular dvds. My BD's are now marked as returned in the system and my next three BD's are mailed out. Then you get a coupon online that you can print andf bring in the store for another movie. Plus you can also get games in place of dvd.
Thats 24 movies and games a month. Of course if you have LOTS of time or a few kids you can do more than that.
At this point in time i don't see how you can not like the Blockbuster deal.

My local BB does not have BD's in store yet but i have been asking when they will show up every other week i go in. Of course they say they will be coming but they don't know an exact date.

I forgot to mention that BB gave me a number for a free trial of the 3 out at a time plan.
I have read its good for 30 days of free service but the manager said 14 days.

I'm going to stop by my closest store which already had some BD and HD-DVD to return some online movies and see if they got anymore in.

$5 each!. That is too much. No wonder the plans are so popular.

Actually, thats not too bad. Considering games are like $7.99

I just called a local blockbuster and they said they've only put up the new releases on the wall, but that they have a huge box full of them.

Can't wait to get out of work...

I don't think $5 is too much. Regular rentals are $4.32 I believe. I'd pay the extra amount for BD.

There has been a coordinated effort to push out all small video chains here in the past year or two, and so far, they've done it.

We used to rent movies for .99 a shot here, as little as a year ago.

Now we're over $3.50 a movie, after everyone else was pushed out. Even the local grocery store, which used to have a huge selection.

I also heard rumors that small rental stores could/were being pursued for not paying some kind of royalty to the movie theaters or something, and that the big chains got the law to go after their competition. Don't know if that one is true or not.

Anyway, our movie rental prices are over 3x what they were last year.

Sounds like the revenue stream has started to flow. People in the store will see you with the discs. Little Johnny with the Wii will beg his parents for a player. We'll see if the stream can turn into a river.
