![]() ![]() The following series are slated for a North American Blu-ray release: Ultra Q. Ultraman. UltraSeven. The Return of Ultraman. Ultraman Ace. Ultraman Taro. In addition to those series, these films will also debut on blu: The Six Ultra Brothers vs. The Monster Army. Jumborg Ace. Chaiyo Studios also revealed plans to produce their own Thai Ultraman and Jumborg movies. According to Chaiyo president Sampote Saengduenchai, the Ultraman film is tentatively titled " Ultraman vs. Gomora in the Japan Olympics 2020, (The rough idea is that Gomora, now an alien monster, crashes on Earth and attacks Japan during the 2020 Olympics.) Another film titled (Jumborg Ace vs. Ninja Panda.) is also in development. Saengduenchai intends to use the profits from the upcoming Ultraman Blu-rays to fund the film. DKC Productions is in talks to head the film and according to Chaiyo representatives Will Smith has been approached to star. http://www.scified.com/articles/six-...-new-movie.jpg |

If they think they can get Will Smith to star in a low-budget, Asian-style Ultraman movie, fighting guys in rubber monster suits, they're dreaming. If they seriously try either, they will get sued big-time. As the article I linked in the other thread (merge please!) states, while international rights to the early shows are in dispute, Chaiyo is expressly forbidden from creating new Ultra shows / movies / characters. They have tried before, and lost a lot of money doing it. Chaiyo likes to drum up publicity by making grandiose claims. At most, we may end up getting the old shows on BD. |

Chaiyo is a Thai company that has used (allegedly) forged documents to swindle the international rights for the early Ultraman shows away from Tsuburaya, the Japanese company that created, produces, and owns the Ultraman franchise.
Go to scifijapan.com and look it up. |

Ultra Q: Legend of the Stars is the Akio Jissoji film. It is quite good, I consider it an under-seen classic of the genre, although not on the level of his Ultraman/Ultra-Seven episodes. It's very talky and procedural, but it has Jissoji's magical mis-en-scene that can get you through any exposition. The man was a master.
Chaiyo does not have the rights to that film, Tsuburaya does. The best bet to get that would be ARROW, although I don't know if they're interested. It'd be easy to market though, as Tsuburaya's licensing costs are low to combat the Chaiyo *******s, and the movie is a KAIJU film, albeit one that only shows up half-way into the film. The problem is that no one really knows about the film. I know Arrow was interested in Buddhist Trilogy for their Prestige line, but I honestly think his genre films are a better gate-way into his work. He has a slew of Rampo horrors that Arrow could look at too. Last edited by Moj; 08-05-2016 at 10:54 PM. |

Would love to see Arrow release a blu-ray of Tokyo: The Last Megalopolis. I have that on dvd as well as Mondo Macabro's release of Marquis de Sade's Prosperities of Vice. Do you have any recommendations on his other genre films?

I have the original BCI dvd release that was 2 box sets. The packaging was really nice and came with the English dubs (though not always in great condition) and subs. The monster booklet and information and extras made that one of my favorite dvd box sets. PQ was ok for a dvd release; but could have been better. But, the blu-ray PQ on the Japanese box sets is a lot better but could still be improved. I think the original series was shot on 16mm. I would love to see another remaster of the original materials though if that ever happens. $400 is not that much for the series for Japanese blu-ray. And, the sets are really nice. ![]() ![]() ![]() Actually, I do have one of the Japanese blu-ray box sets and it was worth it. I think that I paid like $125 or so. They are a lot cheaper now than what they use to be. But, it isn't so bad to get them one by one. I am planning to get another box set next year. The 66-67 set is the only one that I am interested in. |

My problem with them is they, in my and manys opinion, illegally fraud-ed Tsuburaya's U.S ownership of the ultra shows via forgeries, and since Tsuburaya will not give them access to their masters, they rip the commercial available ultra discs from japan as their master. I hate to say this, but any BluRay release in the U.S will just be a rip from the japanese Blu, and they will add subtitles to it and bang you got a nice blu box set, of dubious quality.
