Happy with District 9 specs and Thank you Sony pictures

I never like it when movies are 2.35:1 or 2.40:1 etc. You never get the 'full' screen. Although 1:85 is not complete 'full' 16x9, it is damn good enough for me.A good example is Valkyrie, great PQ there and took up the full screen.

I hope one day all movies will look like IMAX sequences, that is true '1080p'.
Glad my favorite movie this summer, District 9, with 1.85:1 is not disappointing me with it's specs. Thank you Sony.

I'm pretty sure the resolution of the film used to make IMAX movies goes beyond 1080p.

You know that IMAX is not "full screen". The IMAX sequences on The Dark Night were cropped to fit the screen. An IMAX presentation properly displayed on blu-ray would have black bars on both sides of the picture (pillarboxing).

The movie was shot at 1.85:1. Sony is just preserving the films native aspect ratio. Just as studios are preserving 2.35:1 and 2.40:1 content when films are released on Blu in that aspect ratio.

As they should. This fear of black bars needs to end. Buy a TV with a zoom feature if it bugs you so much.

If you zoomed, then it wouldn't be 1080p native My point is I like the image using my whole tv. But there are some movies that fit the ratio of 2.35:1 better. It's a different viewing angle. But I personally think 2.40:1 is pushing it too far. It's like a mini image :s

Anyways, I just prefer 1:85 images. It has much more 'boom'. Plus the blu ray ads at the beginning of some blu ray discs make the 2.35 movies to 1.78. It just has more 'wow factor'.

Nothing wrong with that - you're certainly entitled to your opinion. Just note that there are many threads on this topic already. No sense stirring up the hornets nest. I think the point we should focus on is to be happy that District 9 is being released in the OAR, which is 1.85:1 in this case.

To clarify, the real IMAX screens might be. There are plenty of "fake" IMAX theaters out there... they look a lot like regular theaters, but carry the IMAX name.
