Default probly a stupid question...

Is it wise to plug the subwoofers power cable into a receivers switched outlet so that when you turn on the receiver the sub turns on as well. Or is it necessary to plug the sub into a seperate outlet such as a power strip. Im only asking this because my sub is always on otherwise, unless I physically get up and turn it on and off...which is a pain...

It is not wise at all, check the recievers maximum. It most likely will be excedded by the sub's amp. I honestly think that most recievers manual even tells you not to use it for a self powered subwoofer as well.

Yeah this is a bad idea. Just plug the subwoofer into a wall receptacle and let it go into and out of standby mode on its own.

The switched outlets on the back of stereo equipment are rated to run components, such as Blu-ray or DVD players (or, in the case of my history, CD players, cassette decks, turntables, equalizers ).

High-draw components like subwoofers should not be plugged into them.

I have seen someone do it before. It was a sight to behold, like the 4th of July in a stereo cabinet.

So i checked the back of my sub and it says that the light will show green when its on and red when its in standby but the light is always green, even when my receiver is off. How do I get it to go in standby? Theres no switches or anything on the back of it that I can see that would put it in standby...

I've used JBL powered speakers before for a stage set up. Usually they were in standby if they didn't have a signal coming to them. I'm not sure if your sub is the same way or not.

mzo0163,

Some subwoofers will wait several minutes before going from powered-on to standby mode. Check your sub after you stop playing audio after 15 minutes (best yet, shut the receiver off and wait 15 minutes). The LED should show standby mode.

Both my subs do this Rob . The light will stay green for about 5 minutes before going amber to standby .

The light is always green, I know this because I can see it when the room is dark. It never switches to red for standby.

On the back of your sub, there should be a switch that says AUTO - ON. Switch it to AUTO. When the Auto Switch is in the “auto” position, the subwoofer will automatically
enter the Standby mode after approximately 10 minutes when no signal
is detected from your system. The subwoofer will then power ON instantly
when a signal is detected.

I got this right from your manual.

I wasnt sure what that switch did until you just informed me since I no longer have the manual but Ive been switching it back and forth and it hasnt made a difference so im not sure whats going on with it. Ive left it in each position for at least an hour and no red light....
