Default Letting everybody know....

that if you use Paypal to pay for something outside of eBay and it comes back to you SNAD (significally not as described, Paypal's term), you will not be able to return it or get a refund from Paypal. If the seller refuses to refund your money and you have to escalate your situation to a claim, Paypal will drop your case instantly. Anybody that buys here make sure you ask all the important condition questions before you purchase. You will NOT be protected according to their Buyer Protection Policy. Just wanted to give anybody who didn't know this a heads up.

I didn't know this, so thanks for the heads-up. It doesn't quite seem right that you're not protected at all as a buyer if you send funds for merchandise purchased outside of eBay. I've got a few clients whose websites I'm maintaining and we've got PayPal shopping carts. I was under the impression that both parties (seller and buyer) were pretty safe with a service like PayPal.

I've heard of other cases where someone pays for an item and then never receives it. They file a dispute with Paypal, and Paypal basically says there's nothing they can do because the "seller" has already transferred the money out of Paypal. I don't think people are nearly as safe using Paypal as they think they are.

My story is I bought Band Of Brothers here from a now suspended member and am basically stuck with it. He did mention a couple of dents to it but when I got it in the mail yesterday, it had a lot more due to poor packaging (no cardboard) or had when he listed it. I tried opening a dispute and he refused the refund which left me to open a claim which is the next step with Paypal. After that Paypal closed the dispute. Now I'm out of my money and I'm left with a dented BOB. He was left with negative feedback here.

That's really lame that they closed the case so quickly. It sounds to me like you really need to just take it to the next level and have the situation handled by an escalation team (if PayPal has such a thing).

Sorry to hear about your bad experience, regardless.

I think I've done all I can with Paypal. I'll list it on eBay and see what I can get out of it.

I bought a comic book off of ebay a few years ago and never recieved it. I think paypal got me back a wopping three dollars out of the thirty that I paid for it.

My sister also had her bank account totally emptied because someone hacked it through paypal. I have never had a good experience when dealing with a purchase gone wrong with them.

How is it you only got $3.00 out of $30.00? That's unreal!!! You should of got all your money back! I've had somebody change my eBay password, but I stopped in there.

Paypal will make your account negative and will hold the funds until you balance your account positive. You will not be able to pay anybody with Paypal until you make it positive.

The seller had already almost completely emptied their account and three bucks was all that was left. I haven't made a transaction using paypal since.

Yeah, I don't blame you. I'm really surprised Paypal just didn't make his account go negative. That's what they usually do.

This was probably four or five years ago so I don't know if they have changed their policies concerning claims about items that were damaged or not recieved

For this (and similar) reasons, all my PayPal transactions are funded via a credit card so I can dispute it with them if I need to.
