Australia 1080/24p and DVD Upscaling.

Hey folks. Just recently purchased a Panasonic DMP BD35. On the whole i have been very pleased with the discs i have purchased and how they look on the player. My question is: when you set the player to 1080/24p, does this affect the dvd upscaling? Sorry if it's a dumb question. I'm new to this and thought i'd ask rather than trawling thru the million old posts.
Cheers,
Carcuss.

I believe it will also set dvd's to be upscaled to 1080p (though it will not be of the same quality as blu ray 1080p for obvious reason that you can create 'real' data when it is not there on dvd) and to play at 24 frames a second, which is what you would want assuming your tv is 1080p. Also worthwhile considering is the pulldown you use in your tv (unless of course you use a plasma), do you know what the refreash rate of you tv is?

Also it is not a dumb question, every player is different and I haven't used the one you mention, but I would venture a guess that my explanation is correct in your case. Also, don't forget to calibrate your tv.

Do you have the problem with Cloverfield? I'm trying to ascertain whether it's the disc or the player. I bought two copies of Cloverfield and BOTH crapped themselves at 1 hr 10 mins and 54 seconds. Is it a fault in the disc or in the DMP BD35? Would be interested to hear back from you on this issue.
Cheers,
Carcuss.

Have your settings changed to AUTOMATIC that will take care of the UPSCALING, in regards to the disc I cannot answer as I don't own that film but if you purchased a second copy then it's the disc not the player !

Have you updated your firmware to the latest version?
(this fixes lots of bugs with particular titles)

FYI Cloverfield plays fine on my BD35

G'day folks. Thanks for your replies. Updated the firmware early this week and still had the problem with Cloverfield. Took it back to JB Hi-Fi this arvo for store credit (what? No refund?) and the sales girl commented that a few people had returned that particular film. Maybe i should try buying it from amazon.co.uk and see what happens. Thanks for all the feedback.
Cheers,
Carcuss.
