Default Best hp laptop under $800. Warranty is giving me a new laptop..

Well my laptop that has been n best buy 3 times in the past year finally pissed them off enough to just give me a new one. Here are the catches from what I gathered so far

Must be another hp

met be similar to my old one. Well obviously it was 3 years old so 2 gb of RAM and a 160 gb HD with 256 mb nvidia dedicated video can be had for 300 bucks now so I teLly think it's the 17 inch screen Thats giving me alot of the extra $$.

So I have $700 for in store credit on a new laptop ( I don't know if. Can get a desktop, would be nice, get alot more for your money and a lot more stable and less hardware problems) so what do you think???

I don't know much about computers so a few things what's the dif between amd and intel, is one better than the other ( I know this is gonna be a debate question but I just want to know if there's much of a diffrence ) and is there a dif between ddr2 DDR DDR 3 etc

Thanks guys, here is a link to all hp laptops under 600 dollars , anyone look good to you guys?

Out of all those laptops on the bestbuy site, this is the one I would choose. And use the rest of the money trying to get a bigger battery or something (blu-rays :P).

I would love if I could get a full instore credit. But I think it might just be up to that amount for a computer only where in that case I'll obviously get the most expensive

What s tge dfference between the amd and intel processors as well as radeon an nvidia cards?

It's just a different brand, end result is the same. Think coke vs pepsi, sure they taste different but they are still a beverage.

If I remember correctly the higher priced (600+) laptops all had Intel graphics, which I wouldn't suggest getting. While the lower ones had either AMD or nvidia graphics. And as far as your ram question, just get ddr2 at around 800mhz (think its PC2-6400) unless you plan on spending 2 grand on a laptop (ie. getting a core i7 processor).

The one I linked is fairly good for it's price. Only things I dislike about it are the 1mb L2 cache on the processor and the 5400rpm drive. But I doubt you would notice the difference anyway.

Greatt man , thank you. And as far as the processors go. Ithink my old laptop was a core 2 duo t 5500. Now. See most are either t6400 or t6500 is there much dif. Between them?? Sorry for all the questions , like I said Im pretty bad with computers

I'm gonna make a wild guess that the T5500 is around 1.5-1.6Ghz. So, the newer processors would be ~600Mhz faster with the same L2 cache and possibly a faster front side bus.

I went through the laptops again... Keep in mind they are all pretty well identical, except the battery life, L2 cache, screen size and onboard graphics. Keep in mind the AMD/ATI HD 3200 will perform better than the Intel version, but probably not by much. They should be able to play 720p video fine, unless you hook them up to a tv, then they should still then have enough power for 1080p.

Model: dv7-1448dx 529.99$
L2 Cache: 1Mb
Screen Size: 17" (1440*900 Resolution)
Graphics: AMD/ATI HD 3200
Battery Life: 3-3.5 Hours (take this with a grain of salt)

Model: dv4-1435dx 629.99
L2 Cache: 2Mb
Screen Size: 14.1" (1280*800 Resolution)
Graphics: Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 45000MHD
Battery Life: 3-3.5 hours

Model: dv6-1245dx 659.99
L2 Cache: 2Mb
Screen Size: 16" (1366*768 Resolution)
Graphics: Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 45000MHD
Battery Life: 4.5-5.5 Hours

So given these three, pick a screen size.
I'd probably still get the cheapest of the three if it was just for word processing, internet, and the occasional movie/game. Mostly because of the 17" screen.
