Default PS3 HDMI Video and Audio at same time?

Is it possible to output 24p video through HDMI to the TV, and lossless audio through the HDMI on the PS3 at the same time? I'd like to be able to send 24p content and enjoy lossless audio at the same time from my PS3. Any clarification on this from anyone?

If the HDMI goes to a receiver first, and then to the TV, yes the HDMI cable will carry both audio & video signals together. If you go straight to the TV, I honestly don't know how that goes...

Absolutely.

The PS3 internally decodes/decompresses the lossless codecs (DTS HD MA and Dolby TrueHD), so you need a receiver that can handle multichannel uncompressed LPCM. You need to run an HDMI out of the PS3 into the receiver and another out of the receiver to the TV. And you need to go into the PS3 menu (Settings>Video Settings>BD/DVD Audio Output Format) and select "Linear PCM."

Actually, I already knew about the lossless audio as PCM since the 2.20 update (for DTS-HD MA), but it's nice to know about another HDMI from the receiver to the TV, (or in my possible case, pending a sizeable drop in price), the Panasonic Z1 wireless connector box.

EDIT: The reciever will also handle 24p as well right with HDMI, since it is HDMI?

--I'll say yes, since it's probably obvious.

I would set the reciever to "passthru" - that way it doesn't effect any setting you have on the PS3.

Smart thinking. I do not have a reciever, or an HDTV at this time, but I finally have a PS3, so that's one thing completed. I'd like to see that Panasonic Z1 series come down a few thousand. I'm curious about the input lag, if it has any.

you're getting worked up over nothing methinks.
once you have a TV and a receiver you'll end up doing things hte only way they can (or shuold) be done.
good luck on your endeavors and don't get too worked up.
