Default Should Blu-ray.com be reviewing movies or just tech aspects?

Should Blu-Ray.com be reviewing movies or just technical aspects? I for one couldn't care less what they think about any given film, I would prefer just to hear what they have to say about the quality of the transfer. Not sure I need another person's two cents on what I already appreciate or I wouldn't be looking to buy it to begin with. Just my opinion.

You might not, but others may find it useful Keep in mind there are thousands of members on here, and a good many probably do enjoy reading the reviewer's thoughts, even if they disagree with them. It's always nice to get a different perspective. I for one think a professional movie reviewer's critique is especially interesting (over, say, just my friends, their parents, etc) since they are subjected to so many movies both good and bad; I'm sure the better ones really start to stick out....I pay extra attention to those films they give high praise

What he said.

I like the reviews for films I haven't heard of, as if they are reccommended and I like the subject I'll give it a rent or blind buy it if they are imports.

Without this site I'd miss out on movies like Red Cliff, North Face, Elite Squad, etc.

Ok that's cool. I was just wondering if others thought the same. If I ambuying a movie and unsure of what it is about I look at amazon reviews there are pretty legit average joe movie lovers on there. IMDB is just brutal so I wouldn't look at their reviews. Well glad some find it useful.

Oh and forgot to make a crucial point. I just didn't think it was fair to have their review included in the overall score of what the blu ray gets. If they hate the film then it takes the review way down. Well whatever, all trivial stuff.

I only pay attention to the technical sections relating to audio and video quality. I already know whether or not I like the movie. I personally don't care what the reviewer thinks of the movie, but it is somewhat irritating at times that if the reviewer doesn't like the movie that brings the overall rating down.

I skip over the section of the review that deals with the movie itself. Sometimes it is important though to know the mind state of the reviewer on a movie because I have found certain reviewers will not give a fair technical review if they dislike a movie.

I find the reviews useful. There have been a few that I knew nothing about, and while some of the reviews are "flavored" by the writer's opinions, they're usually upfront about it.

To be honest, the reviews here match my personal viewing preferences more than the ones on tv or in the newspaper.

I also skip to the tech section since I don't like reading. In some rare instance, when I don't know a movie; I glance over the movie review.

I look for the technical reviews but I do like the film reviews. I gives a laymen's viewpoint of the films, the strengths and weaknesses. Then that can be hashed out in the review columns. Personally there's been some films that i've rented and eventually bought cause of enthusiastic reviews or enough information was given about the film where I became interested in it.

A lot of times I'm not familiar with the movies in question, so the movie score let me know if something might be worth checking out or immediately writing off. It'd be nice if the reviewers added scores from imdb/rottentomatoes/metacritic as well, though. Then I go right for the screenshots, since the reviewer's take on PQ means little to me.

I agree with you 100% slaughteredlamb. I could careless about peoples opinons of a film that I've seen multiple times already. I always skip over long winded reviews, and go straight to there opinon on the PQ and AQ which I do value. I'd say for 90% or higher of us, these are movies we're looking to upgrade from the dvd's we already own. So that's why I don't bother telling people what the movie is about. There are already tons of websights, and books with reviews on movies, that's enough for me.

I use this sight, plus AVS.com, and high-def digest, for my blu-ray PQ and AQ reviews. Tonight I received "Godzilla"-1954 form Netflix. Seriously do people really need a review on what the movie is about?

I think the fact that so many people couldn't care less what some one else thinks on a particular subject is sad. It shows how closed minded and self centered society really is.

I personally find it interesting to know another person's opinion's on things. You never know, you might be able to look at things from a different perspective and learn something from it.

I usually read entire reviews, even if I've seen the movie and have already made up my mind about it. I like hearing/reading others' perspectives. As a fan of film, I like hearing all sides. Makes discussing a specific movie that much more fun and enlightening.

I read reviews for a number of reasons. I find them useful when I'm about to rent a movie or do a blind buy. There are times when I simply find it interesting to learn about different perspectives of a movie.
