Default Name a few blu-rays you never owned on SD dvd.

#1 this question is for folks that had a decent sized SD dvd collection, (200+) before the arrival of HD and blu-ray.

Name a few blu-rays that you have added to your collection that you would never have owned on SD dvd even if they were available.

The movie that gave me the idea to ask this question is 'The Wizard of Oz'.

why? Mainly because it has been on TV at least once anually since I was a kid so there was no need to buy it, although I cannot say for sure if was ever available in DVD.

There are a few others that I have purchased basically for the BD transfer alone.

One thing is for sure, I will never watch The Wizard of Oz on TV again.

Almost all of them... I didn't have very many DVDs, and I stopped buying them the moment that I learned that Blu-ray was on the way. I guess I kinda skipped DVD because I was a starving college student for the first few years of its run, and shortly after I got to working and earning again I'd heard of Blu-ray.

LOL, you kids are noobs. Ive been at this a long time, I remember back in the mid 90's when it was not uncommon for a guy to have $5000+ wrapped up in their dvds. I remember when $19.99 was the best price you ever saw on a DVD, and you could sell used DVD on Ebay for $15 and $20 .

I was lucky, I sold half my DVD collection back in 99' or so , I got $10-$20 a piece for them. LOL today it would be more like $1 or $2 a piece.

I guess one would have to be The Wizard of Oz. Never did own a copy of the movie on DVD. I owned it and its sequel, Return to Oz on VHS, but never DVD.

Just some of the many that I would not have purchased on DVD. Zulu, Patton, Robin Hood, Bullit, A Bridge too Far, The Dirty Dozen, The Shining, and many more.

My DVD collection is creeping towards 1,200 but I've been buying Blu-rays (in addition to some DVDs) for the past 2 years, so every movie that has been released (new) in the past 2 years, that I've bought, has been a movie I've bought on Blu-ray that I didn't own previously on DVD.....

Blu-rays I don't own on DVD 50-60
Blu-rays I already owned the DVD of previously 40-50

silly to name them all.

I collect Disney movies, so I have about 300 Disney DVDs alone. I've been weeding through my non-Disney DVDs and getting rid of films I haven't watched in more than 2 years through Amazon's trade-in offer to free up shelf space. With the exception of new release movies, all of the Blu-Rays I've bought have replaced a DVD version that I already owned. Although I did just order Casablanca online, and have never owned that film before, so that would be the one and only exception.

I owned Nightmare Before Christmas on VHS, but never DVD, as I knew it would get a better release than the first DVD version. Never owned Gladiator on DVD (let alone even seen it before the Blu release). The Godfather Trilogy was never in my DVD collection, either, as it never really got my attention until I heard how good it was on Blu. And the final Blu that wasn't in my DVD collection was T2. It had been on TV enough times for me to see, but once the Skynet Edition came out, I thought it would be a perfect time to buy it.

After I got my PS3, I bought Blus, most of which I never owned on DVD. Considering most of my Blus released after I got my player, of course I never owned them on DVD.

Really hard to say since I bought 1,300 or so DVDs, so I looked at the last 15 blus I bought. 8 of them are definitely not in my DVD collection. All new releases I've bought since late November '08 are blus. One day I'll count 'em up when time permits, but I'll guess around 30% to 35% as of today since I have so many catalog titles.
